How to approach the groupings
Start with the textile-pattern terms: ANIMAL PRINT, HERRINGBONE, HOUNDSTOOTH and POLKA DOT each name a pattern. The food set gathers CHIMICHURRI, PESTO, RELISH and SALSA VERDE as green condiments. BAGEL, HULA HOOP, INNER TUBE and WASHER each have a hole through the middle. The remaining four fit the purple association: Barney the Dinosaur, eggplant, the song “Purple People Eater,” and a swing state shaded purple on an election map.
