Why the board could mislead
Some entries can invite tempting word associations beyond their actual group. Forbes points to possible overlaps involving phrases that end in finger-related words; that is a secondary guide’s observation, not an official explanation from the puzzle editor. The intended sets are the four categories shown above.

Which puzzle does “today” mean?
“Today” in the original title refers to Friday, October 17, 2025, puzzle #859; it is not a current-day answer page. Daily puzzle timing can depend on location: TechRadar contributor Johnny Dee wrote, “A new NYT Connections puzzle appears at midnight each day for your time zone.”
The answer groups and board are independently reported by TechRadar, Forbes, and AllThingsHow. These are secondary solution guides; an official NYT archive page for this complete historical solution is not established here.
