This is the archived New York Times Connections puzzle for Friday, September 20, 2024, game #467—not a current daily puzzle. The four groups are PRESUME, SOMEBODY, familiar characters from The Empire Strikes Back, and words that follow “kitty.” Spoilers below: the full solution follows.

Hints for Connections #467

  • Yellow: Think of a verb meaning “suppose.”
  • Green: A human being, or one person considered individually.
  • Blue: Familiar names of characters from The Empire Strikes Back.
  • Purple: Each word can follow “kitty.”

Full answers for September 20, 2024

Yellow — PRESUME

FIGURE, IMAGINE, SUSPECT, THINK

Green — SOMEBODY

CHARACTER, INDIVIDUAL, PARTY, PERSON

Blue — CHARACTERS IN “THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK,” FAMILIARLY

BOBA, CHEWY, EMPEROR, SOLO

There is a spelling discrepancy in archived answer coverage: TechRadar and News9live give CHEWY, while SolveWordGames displays CHEWIE in its board list. The grouping above uses CHEWY, as in the majority of those answer reports.

Purple — WORDS AFTER “KITTY”

CAT, CORNER, HAWK, LITTER

Why the groups can be easy to mix up

FIGURE may look like it belongs with terms for a person, but here it is grouped with verbs meaning presume. PARTY can mean a person in some contexts, and it completes the SOMEBODY set. HAWK may look like a Star Wars decoy, but it belongs with CAT, CORNER, and LITTER: each completes a phrase beginning with “kitty.”
