Spoiler-safe hints for Connections #446

  • Yellow: Think of things that sparkle or catch the light.
  • Green: Think of actions performed in summer Olympic events.
  • Blue: Think of famous wonders of the world.
  • Purple: Complete the phrase “ICE ___.”

How Connections works

Connections gives players 16 words to sort into four groups of four that share a theme. The New York Times Help Center says the categories are color-coded, with yellow the easiest and purple the trickiest. It also notes: “Each puzzle has exactly one solution and is meant to be tricky by having words that could fit into multiple categories.” Read the NYT Help Center’s Connections guidance.

Why the words fit

  • Sparkling things: A diamond, glitter, gold, and a sequin can all sparkle or catch the light.
  • Summer Olympic events: Box, dive, fence, and row are verbs for participating in Olympic disciplines.
  • Wonders of the world: The words point to the Gardens of Babylon, Lighthouse of Alexandria, Pyramid of Giza, and Temple of Artemis.
  • ICE ___: Each word completes a familiar phrase: ice cream, ice cube, ice machine, and ice storm.
