Answers for Connections #775
Spoilers below. TechRadar and Parade report the same categories and word sets:
| Color | Category | Words |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow | HUSH-HUSH | MUM, PRIVATE, QUIET, SECRET |
| Green | STATE ABBREVIATIONS | IN, MA, OH, OK |
| Blue | BASEBALL CALLS | BALL, FAIR, FOUL, OUT |

Why the board can be tricky
Two-letter state abbreviations
The green group consists of Indiana, Massachusetts, Ohio, and Oklahoma in postal-abbreviation form: IN, MA, OH, and OK. They are easy to overlook if you read them as ordinary letter combinations rather than state codes.
#1 Best Overall
Baseball calls and the Queen connection
The blue words are calls an umpire can make: ball, fair, foul, and out. The purple group takes “Queen” before each word: Queen bed, Queen bee, Queen Mary, and Queen mother. TechRadar’s writer described hesitating between MOTHER and FOUL when sorting the final entries; that is the writer’s account, not a reported measure of player difficulty.
How Connections works
Connections presents 16 terms for players to divide into four groups of four. A 2024 benchmark paper describes a collection of 358 puzzles and reports that even the top-performing evaluated language models fell short of human performance by nearly 30%; that benchmark result is not a statistic about game #775. See the NYT-Connections benchmark paper.

Sources and date
TechRadar labels its guide as published July 24, 2025, while Parade’s page is timestamped July 25, 2025. Both identify the puzzle as Friday, July 25, 2025, game #775, and report the same solution. No official NYT archive entry for this game is cited here, so the answer key is attributed to those two guides rather than presented as independently verified against an NYT archive. The puzzle is available through the NYT Games site.
