Need a nudge on NYT Connections #398? The July 13, 2024 puzzle groups words around enormous size, representations of a person, ways something may come across, and words with a silent “T.” Start with the spoiler-safe hints below; the full groups follow a warning.
Connections #398 board and hints
The board contains LISTEN, SOUND, WITCH, TITANIC, AVATAR, GIANT, LOOK, HUSTLE, MONSTER, FIGURE, CASTLE, APPEAR, PERSONA, SEEM, MAMMOTH, and CHARACTER.
These staged clues are reported by TechRadar’s July 12, 2024 guide. Try each hint before revealing the solution:
- Yellow: Bigger than that. Even bigger than that.
- Green: Like a person, but not.
- Blue: I think it’s that.
- Purple: Missing letter?
How to approach the clues
Look for four words that share a specific connection, rather than trying to make one broad theme fit the whole board. The yellow clue points to words meaning very large. The green clue suggests a representation or embodiment of a person. For blue, consider verbs describing how something appears or sounds to others. The purple clue asks you to notice a letter that is written but not pronounced.

TechRadar’s author Marc McLaren described this particular game as “Easy” and said he scored Perfect. That is his personal account of one playthrough, not a general difficulty rating or an independently measured result. The guide says Connections is playable free through NYT Games on desktop or mobile; availability and access terms may change.
