Spoiler warning: This guide gives progressive hints for the historical NYT Connections puzzle from Thursday, March 13, 2025 (game #641), followed by the category names and all 16 answers. Stop before the section you need.
Connections asks you to sort 16 words into four groups of four. The puzzle appears at midnight in each time zone and is playable on desktop or mobile through the NYT Games site.

These clues become more specific as you move down the list. The usual color order runs from yellow (easiest) through green and blue to purple (most difficult).

Think about words meaning taking sides or showing a viewpoint.
Green group hint
These are ways to get a taxi driver’s attention.
Blue group hint
Look for terms from a poker variant.
Purple group hint
These words are associated with the Bard.

Yellow: PARTIALITY
- ANGLE
- BIAS
- SLANT
- SPIN
Each can describe a particular point of view or a deliberately one-sided presentation.

Green: SIGNAL DOWN, AS A TAXI
- FLAG
- HAIL
- WAVE
- WHISTLE
All four can be used to signal a taxi to stop.
Blue: CARDS IN TEXAS HOLD ’EM
- FLOP
- HOLE
- RIVER
- TURN
These are Texas hold ’em terms: hole cards are dealt to each player, followed by the flop, turn and river community-card stages.
Purple: SHAKESPEAREAN WORDS
- ANON
- ART
- THOU
- WILT
These words evoke Shakespearean phrasing, including “anon,” “thou,” “art” and “wilt.”

How to approach a Connections board
- Scan for an obvious set of four, but do not submit immediately if a word could fit another theme.
- Separate literal categories from phrases, specialist vocabulary and wordplay.
- Use the yellow-style connection first when possible, then reassess the remaining 12 words.
- Remember that one wrong submission costs a life, so test each proposed group against every word.
