Try to sort the words before reading the category names. These clues are ordered from broad to more revealing.
- One group contains verbs about influencing someone or something.
- One group contains affirmations or signals that an answer is right.
- One group uses informal words for money.
- One group consists of objects whose names begin with micro-.

Why the grid is deceptive
Several words encourage tempting but incorrect sets. CHIP, DING, SCRATCH and TOUCH can suggest minor damage, while MOVE, SWAY, WAVE and CHANGE may all evoke persuasion or influence. Connections is designed to create that kind of overlap: the New York Times Help Center says every puzzle has one solution and deliberately includes words that can fit multiple categories.

The reliable check is consistency. A proposed group must give all four words the same meaning or construction, not merely a loose association. In this puzzle, the micro- prefix cleanly resolves the last four words and helps separate them from the decoys.

How Connections works
Connections presents 16 words and asks you to find four groups of four sharing a common link. The category colors range from yellow (easiest) through purple (trickiest), and each daily puzzle releases at midnight in the player’s timezone. The game is available through the Games app, NYTimes.com, The Athletic site and the News app, with free play offered on the listed platforms.

Replay puzzle #655
All Access and Games subscribers can use the official NYT Connections archive to play historical boards, including #655. The archive reaches back to June 12, 2023. Archived games can affect some recorded statistics, but they do not count toward a current or maximum daily streak, and a completed archive puzzle cannot be replayed.
