Hints for Connections #520
Connections asks you to find four groups of four words that share a theme. The New York Times says the groups are color-coded from yellow, the easiest, to purple, the trickiest. These clues keep the answers hidden:
- Yellow: Think of ways to express displeasure.
- Green: Think of parts or units of a vegetable.
- Blue: Consider common laptop specifications; battery life is another example of this kind of spec.
- Purple: Think of attributes associated with Justitia, the personification of Justice.
Category names
Ready for a stronger nudge? The four category labels are:
- Yellow: COMPLAIN
- Green: VEGETABLE UNITS
- Blue: LAPTOP SPECS
- Purple: FEATURES OF JUSTICE PERSONIFIED

Why the less-obvious words fit
Carp and crab are complaint verbs
In addition to their familiar noun meanings, carp and crab can mean to complain or grumble, which connects them with BELLYACHE and GRUMBLE.
The vegetable words name parts or units
A clove of garlic, a broccoli floret, an asparagus spear, and a celery stalk make the green group’s shared idea easier to see.
The blue group contains computer specifications
RAM, resolution, speed, and storage are all specifications you might compare for a laptop.
The purple group draws on allegorical Justice
A blindfold, robe, scales, and sword are conventional attributes associated with personified Justice.
