Why each group works
Small kitchen appliances
BLENDER, MICROWAVE, RICE COOKER and TOASTER are compact appliances designed for specific kitchen jobs. “Rice cooker” is the two-word product term used by the puzzle.
Car center-console features
AIR CONDITIONER, CUP HOLDER, RADIO and SHIFTER are things you can find in or operate from the area between a car’s front seats. The wording is about the center-console area, not every feature in a vehicle.

Airport-security sights
At a security checkpoint, travelers encounter a BIN, their CARRY-ON, a METAL DETECTOR and an X-RAY system or scan.
Words ending in colors
The final four tiles contain color names at their ends: INFRARED, MARIGOLD (gold), STINGRAY (gray/grey by sound and spelling play), and ULTRAVIOLET (violet). In the intended readings, the color endings are red, gold, gray and violet.
The electromagnetic-radiation red herring
INFRARED, MICROWAVE, X-RAY, RADIO and ULTRAVIOLET may suggest a science category because they are all associated with electromagnetic radiation. That grouping has five candidates, so it cannot be a valid set of four. MICROWAVE belongs with the kitchen appliances; the remaining radiation-related terms must be distributed into their intended groups.
