These hints follow the puzzle’s color order, from the easiest group to the trickiest. Stop before the spoiler warning if you want to solve the grid yourself.
- Yellow: Think of fish.
- Green: These are words you might hear in an auction-ending phrase.
- Blue: These are currencies or monetary units used around the world.
- Purple: Each word can come before “cup.”

How the puzzle fits together
Connections asks players to sort 16 words into four groups of four based on a shared connection. In this grid, some answers are straightforward categories, such as fish and currencies; the other groups depend on recognizing phrases: “going once, going twice, sold,” and buttercup, diva cup, solo cup, and World Cup.
