The 16 words in Connections #832
Try the grid before reading further:
- DUCK
- WING
- ROCKET
- STAR
- LARK
- DIP
- DODGE
- SENATOR
- RAM
- DIVE
- DRY
- FORD
- CHIP
- SCRAPER
- LINCOLN
- FLYER
Grid note: The supplied word list contains DRY, while the published solution uses FRY in the sports-bar group. Those cannot both be correct: a standard Connections grid has 16 entries and every entry belongs to one of the four groups. If you see DRY in an archived reproduction, treat it as a likely transcription or reproduction error and verify the original grid; FRY is the word that completes the answer set.

Hints for Saturday’s Connections puzzle
Here are the clues from broadest to most specific. Stop whenever you have enough information to finish the puzzle.
Yellow hint
Vroom-vroom. Think of automobile manufacturers and marque names.
Green hint
Something you might order or share at a sports bar. This group is made up of casual game-day food.
Blue hint
Sport on ice. Each word appears as the identifying noun in an NHL team name.
Purple hint
Complete the phrase “SKY ____.” The four answers form familiar compounds or expressions beginning with “sky.”
One-word anchors
- Yellow: DODGE
- Green: DIP
- Blue: DUCK
- Purple: SCRAPER
Spoilers: Connections #832 answers
Warning: the complete answers appear below.
Yellow: CAR BRANDS
- DODGE
- FORD
- LINCOLN
- RAM
Dodge, Ford, Lincoln, and Ram are automobile brands or marque names. This is the most direct group once you notice that the words are names rather than actions or objects.
Green: BIT OF SPORTS BAR FARE
- CHIP
- DIP
- FRY
- WING
Chips, dip, fries, and wings are all familiar sports-bar foods. The category is narrower than simply “bar food,” which helps explain why WING can be tempting to place with the hockey-related entries.
If your version of the grid says DRY instead of FRY, that version does not produce a complete valid solution. The answer guides corroborated for this puzzle use FRY.
Blue: N.H.L. TEAM MEMBER
- DUCK
- FLYER
- SENATOR
- STAR
These are the identifying nouns in the team names of the Anaheim Ducks, Philadelphia Flyers, Ottawa Senators, and Dallas Stars. The grid tile is STAR, although the team name itself is plural: Stars.
Purple: SKY ____
- DIVE
- LARK
- ROCKET
- SCRAPER
Add “sky” to the front of each word: sky dive or skydiving, skylark, skyrocket, and skyscraper. The purple group is the trickiest because the resulting phrases are not equally common as standalone expressions.
Why this puzzle was difficult
Several entries appear to support more than one possible category. DODGE, DUCK, and DIP can all suggest evasive movements or sports actions, but they ultimately belong to three different groups: car brands, NHL team names, and food.
WING is another effective decoy. Hockey fans may think of a wing position, but in this grid it belongs with CHIP, DIP, and FRY. The purple entries also take time to recognize because the group is based on completing “sky,” rather than on a single subject such as cars, food, or hockey.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsRank #4
A useful solving strategy is to lock in the four car brands first. Then look at the remaining sports-bar foods and NHL team nouns. Once those are removed, DIVE, LARK, ROCKET, and SCRAPER reveal the “SKY ____” pattern.

The Bottom Line
Today’s solution: Car brands are DODGE, FORD, LINCOLN, and RAM; sports-bar fare is CHIP, DIP, FRY, and WING; NHL team members are DUCK, FLYER, SENATOR, and STAR; and “SKY ____” is DIVE, LARK, ROCKET, and SCRAPER. If an archived grid shows DRY, it appears to contain a reproduction error—the answer set requires FRY.
