Start with a gentle nudge for each color, then reveal the category names or full groups only if you need them.
How to play this puzzle
Connections asks you to sort 16 words into four groups of four based on a shared connection. The groups are color-coded in an order commonly described as yellow, green, blue, then purple from easiest to hardest; that order is a general guide, not a promise about what any one player will find easy. Four incorrect guesses end the game. A 2024 study of lateral-thinking puzzles describes these mechanics.
The clues below move from broad hints to category names and finally the exact tiles. Stop before the next section if you want to preserve the remaining challenge.

Spoilers: all answers for game #461
| Color | Category | Words |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow | Wine bottle info | GRAPE, REGION, VINTAGE, WINERY |
| Green | Console inputs | BUTTON, KNOB, SLIDER, SWITCH |
| Blue | Prefixes | PRO, RETRO, SUB, SUPER |
| Purple | ___ king | BURGER, CALIFORNIA, LION, PROM |
Why the purple group fits
Each word completes a familiar phrase when placed before “king”: Burger King, California king, Lion King, and prom king. The category is about phrase completion, rather than a single shared word class or object type.
