Why the groups can be tricky

Some words can suggest more than one association when viewed alone. The useful test is whether all four words fit the same category: for example, the medical group consists of four hospital roles, while the purple group makes familiar phrases when “square” follows each word.

The Shakespeare group draws on the “Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears” line from Julius Caesar; the puzzle’s set uses the four singular nouns FRIEND, ROMAN, COUNTRYMAN, and EAR.
