How Connections works
The New York Times describes Connections as a game where players receive 16 words and find four groups of four that share something in common. The NYT Help Center says, “Players are given 16 words and must find groups of four items that share something in common.” The categories are color-coded from yellow, the easiest, to purple, the trickiest; words can appear to fit more than one group. The daily puzzle is playable free across NYT platforms and releases at midnight in the player’s timezone. The NYT Connections archive goes back to June 12, 2023, and is available to All Access and Games subscribers. Playing archived puzzles affects puzzle statistics, but not current or maximum streaks.
