Green — SUBSEQUENT

COMING, FOLLOWING, FUTURE, LATER. These words refer to what occurs afterward or is yet to come.

Blue — KINDS OF CARDS

BUSINESS, GREETING, MEMBERSHIP, PLAYING.

Purple — COLORS MINUS LAST LETTER

BROW, CYA, PIN, WHIT. Add the missing final letter to make BROWN, CYAN, PINK, and WHITE.

Why the purple group is easy to miss

The purple set depends on spelling rather than a straightforward shared meaning: each tile is a color name with its final letter removed. The Crayola clue points toward colors, while the altered spellings conceal the connection.

What Connections asks you to do

Connections presents 16 terms and asks players to sort them into four groups of four based on a shared connection. A 2024 research paper evaluated 100 puzzles drawn from a 358-puzzle corpus. In that experiment, human accuracy was 60.67% with full hints, compared with 40.25% for Claude 3.5; those figures describe that study, not general or current game performance. Read the paper by Angel Yahir Loredo Lopez, Tyler McDonald, and Ali Emami.
