How Connections Sports Edition works
The Sports Edition board has 16 words to sort into four groups of four, with each group linked by a shared sports-related thread. Parade described the NYT instruction as “group sports terms that share a common thread.”
Hints for puzzle #359
- Yellow: Four California soccer clubs, including the Los Angeles side that plays in Carson.
- Green: MLB ballpark names; think of the stadium famous for its Green Monster.
- Blue: Four sports movies released in 1994, including a film about a boy whose wish brings help to a struggling baseball team.
- Purple: Four people connected to LSU athletics.

Why the clues fit
Yellow: California soccer teams
ANGEL CITY, BAY FC, EARTHQUAKES and GALAXY are the four California soccer entries in the reported group. The hint singles out the Galaxy as the star-studded Los Angeles side that plays in Carson.
Green: MLB stadium names
ANGEL, DODGER, GLOBE LIFE and ORACLE are the stadium-name terms. The Green Monster clue points to Fenway Park, home of MLB’s oldest ballpark, and helps orient players toward baseball venues.

Blue: sports movies of 1994
ANGELS IN THE OUTFIELD, BLUE CHIPS, LITTLE BIG LEAGUE and LITTLE GIANTS make up the movie group. The wish-and-outfielder clue refers to Angels in the Outfield.
Purple: LSU alumni
BCHASE, NABERS, REESE and SKENES are the reported LSU alumni answers. The hint’s reference to a Heisman-winning quarterback who helped restore an LSU program points toward the alumni connection; the source does not give a separate biographical explanation for each name.
