How Connections works

Connections asks players to sort 16 words into four groups of four based on a shared theme. The groups are color-coded yellow, green, blue, and purple, with yellow intended to be easiest and purple trickiest. The New York Times Help Center notes that words may seem to fit more than one theme, but each puzzle has one solution: Connections help.

Why some archives give a different puzzle number

TechRadar and Parade both identify the May 2 board as #691 and list the same four categories and tile groups. Xfire’s date-specific archive labels it #725, while agreeing on the answers. The puzzle number is therefore given here as #691, matching the two guides that agree on the date-specific identification.
