NYT Strands game #174, for Saturday, August 24, 2024, has the theme “Crumby theme.” If you need a nudge, think of snacks that can leave you thirsty; the spangram clue is “Just add cheese.” The full answer list is below a spoiler warning.

NYT Strands #174 hints

Try these clues before revealing the board’s words:

  • Theme: “Crumby theme.”
  • Additional nudge: Treats that might make you thirsty.
  • Spangram clue: “Just add cheese.”

Strands is a themed word search: connect adjacent letters in horizontal, vertical or diagonal directions, changing direction as needed. Finding three valid non-theme words of at least four letters unlocks a hint that highlights a theme answer.

TechRadar’s guide places the spangram’s start on the left side of the board in row five and its endpoint on the right side in row seven. The non-theme words it lists for unlocking hints are MAIN, FAST, SACK, LORE, WRIST and CRATE.

How the answer sources compare

TechRadar and Forbes published their guides on August 23, the day before this puzzle’s date. Try Hard Guides also lists ANIMAL, matching Forbes’ answer set. The entries above therefore include all seven theme words and the CRACKERS spangram; they are reported by the guides rather than confirmed here against an official historical NYT answer page.
