Hints for Strands #331
Try these clues in order if you want a nudge before seeing the full answer list:
- The theme clue is “Stable supply.”
- Think: “Ride that pony.”
- The spangram names the activity linked to the theme words.
In Strands, trace letters in the grid to find themed words; theme answers highlight blue. Finding three non-theme words earns a hint that reveals a theme word. The spangram highlights yellow and connects opposite sides of the grid. The clue words SHORE, ROPE, SOAP, RUSH, NEAR, and SHINE can also unlock in-game hints. The spangram runs from the right edge at row four to the left edge at row three.
NYT Strands #331 answers
The six theme words are:
- CROP
- REINS
- SADDLE
- HARNESS
- BRIDLE
- SPURS
What does “Stable supply” mean?
“Stable supply” is a pun: the answers are horse-riding equipment and aids, while the spangram, HORSEBACK RIDING, names the activity that links them. Reins guide a horse, a saddle is ridden on, and a bridle and harness are tack. A crop and spurs are riding aids; the theme does not imply that every item is necessary or recommended for every rider.

Spangram for January 28, 2025
The spangram is HORSEBACK RIDING (sometimes written without a space as HORSEBACKRIDING). It spans opposite sides of the board and captures the connection among all six theme answers.
