What was the spangram for September 22?
The spangram was MINDTHEGAP (MIND THE GAP). Its ten letters stretch from the left side of the board to the right. The phrase is the familiar warning about the space between a train and platform on London Underground journeys, making it a fitting answer to a puzzle about openings.
What were the Strands #568 answers?
The six theme words were:
- ALCOVE
- CRANNY
- CREVICE
- NICHE
- NOOK
- PIGEONHOLE
Each word evokes an opening, small space, or recess. PIGEONHOLE also names a small compartment.
How Strands hints work
Strands is a themed word-search played on a letter grid. Find theme words and the spangram, which describes the theme and spans opposite sides of the board. Non-theme words of four or more letters count toward hints; every three valid words trigger a hint that highlights a theme word. The game mechanics and answer set are described in Tom’s Guide’s September 22, 2025 guide.
