How the hint system works
Parade’s account of New York Times instructions says that finding three non-theme words earns a hint. The hint reveals the letters of a theme word; if a hint is already active, it shows the order of that word’s letters. Theme words are highlighted blue and the spangram yellow. You can form words by dragging or tapping letters. The spangram describes the theme and touches two opposite edges of the board.
