How Strands hints work

Forbes’ guide describes Strands as a daily puzzle played on a six-by-eight letter grid. Connected letters can run vertically, horizontally, or diagonally, and a word’s path can change direction. Every letter belongs to a theme word or the spangram; the spangram captures the relationship among the answers and touches at least two sides of the grid.

According to that guide, finding three valid words of at least four letters that are not theme answers unlocks a hint that highlights one theme word.

One reported solving route

Forbes contributor Kris Holt reported using a hint that revealed NOSE, then inferring the theme, finding the spangram, and completing the remaining answers. Holt said PIERCING was the second theme word he found; that is his account of this puzzle, not a general difficulty rating.
