NYT Strands puzzle #200, for Thursday, September 19, 2024, uses the theme clue “Work out the bugs.” Here’s a spoiler-light nudge first, followed by the complete answer list and spangram.

Hint for Strands #200

Read “bugs” as small creatures rather than computer problems. Think of familiar creepy-crawlies; the category itself is the key to the puzzle.

How to approach the grid

Strands lets you connect neighboring letters horizontally, vertically, and diagonally. Look for connected sequences that spell creatures fitting the clue. The spangram names the group and links opposite sides of the grid.

According to Forbes’s explanation of the game, finding three valid non-theme words of four or more letters unlocks a hint that highlights a theme word.

Spangram

CREEPY CRAWLIES is the spangram; it is also written without a space as CREEPYCRAWLIES. TechRadar identifies its first cell as the top row, third column, and its last cell as the bottom row, fourth column. Those endpoints do not specify every letter’s route through the grid.

Why these words fit

The clue’s double meaning points away from software bugs and toward insects and other small crawling creatures. The five theme answers are examples, while CREEPY CRAWLIES states their shared category.

TechRadar’s writer described this puzzle as easy and reported a perfect score; that is one solver’s assessment, not a measure of difficulty for every player.
