Hints for the May 8 Strands puzzle
The Times of India Tech Desk published these two hints for the puzzle:
- “When someone’s spending too much money, beyond the limits of reason or necessity.”
- “A way to describe something that’s highly or elaborately decorated.”
The theme is “Well, fancy that!” Think of words for things that are showy, luxurious, or richly decorated.

The spangram is OOHSHINY (also styled “OohShiny”). The six theme words are:

The Times of India’s introductory summary misspells SNAZZY as “SNNAZZY,” but its answer list uses the correct spelling, SNAZZY.

Strands.Game describes the board as a 6-by-8 letter grid. Players connect letters horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, and can change direction while forming a word. The spangram names the theme and touches two opposite sides of the board. According to that site, finding three valid words that are not theme answers unlocks a hint that highlights one theme word. Strands.Game is a third-party guide and says it is not affiliated with The New York Times.
