Oblivion Remastered has community-made mods, but Bethesda does not officially support them. An early launch report counted more than 100 Nexus Mods listings in April 2025; that is a historical snapshot, not a current total. One popular community configuration, Ultimate Engine Tweaks, is intended to reduce stuttering, but its author’s claims are not proof of a universal fix.
Does Oblivion Remastered support mods?
Not officially. Bethesda Support states: “Mods are not officially supported for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.” That does not mean community mods are unavailable: creators publish them on Nexus Mods, and community tools can manage some of them. It does mean Bethesda does not provide official mod support, and a mod may cause problems the game’s support team cannot resolve.
PC Guide reported on April 23, 2025, less than a day after launch, that Nexus Mods already had more than 100 Oblivion Remastered mods listed. Treat that as an early launch-period count, not a live tally: a current total is not established here. PC Guide’s dated report
What is the “miracle” anti-stutter fix?
Ultimate Engine Tweaks is a community-made Engine.ini configuration hosted on Nexus Mods. Its author says it adjusts CPU, GPU, memory, storage, and graphics settings to target stuttering, performance, latency, and image clarity. The listing also describes changes involving effects such as film grain, motion blur, chromatic aberration, upscaling, and anti-aliasing.

Those are the mod author’s stated aims, not independently established results. The listing’s changelog describes configuration changes, but the reviewed information does not provide a controlled benchmark showing how much the mod improves performance, or whether it helps consistently across different PCs. PC Gamer includes it among utility mods to consider for stutters or low frame rates; that recommendation is not a measured guarantee. Ultimate Engine Tweaks on Nexus Mods · PC Gamer’s mod guide
So, does it work or is it placebo? The available evidence does not settle that question for every setup. The practical answer is that it is a community configuration with a plausible intended use, but not a verified universal cure. Try official troubleshooting first, then consider the configuration as an optional experiment—making one change at a time so you can tell whether it helps your system.

What to know before installing Ultimate Engine Tweaks
The mod author provides separate variants and installation instructions for different setups. Follow the current Nexus listing, because the configuration and compatibility guidance can change with updates.
- Choose the correct variant: The listing has VRR and No VRR versions. The author says to use the VRR version only if variable refresh rate is enabled both in the GPU control panel and on the display.
- Use the instructions for your platform: The author lists separate paths for Xbox/Game Pass, Steam/GOG, and Linux/Steam Deck, and says to open and close the game once before installing.
- Do not stack optimization mods: The author explicitly warns against using Ultimate Engine Tweaks alongside other optimization mods.
- Keep a recovery route: The author says to set the replaced Engine.ini file to read-only and that deleting the modified file restores the game’s defaults on the next launch.
These are the author’s installation directions, not Bethesda-supported procedures. Check the live listing for the exact version-specific paths and current instructions before changing files.

Try Bethesda’s troubleshooting steps first
Bethesda’s PC performance guidance offers a baseline that does not require a community mod. Its suggestions include disabling overlays, verifying game files, ensuring the game uses the primary GPU, selecting high-performance power options, and returning changed graphics settings to their auto-detected values. Steam users can also try Safe Mode. Follow Bethesda’s instructions for the relevant launcher and system. Bethesda PC performance troubleshooting
If gameplay issues begin after installing mods, Bethesda recommends uninstalling them and verifying the game files through Steam or the Xbox App. This is the official recovery advice; it is also a useful first step before asking whether a configuration file caused a problem. How community mod management works
Nexus Mods’ Vortex extension documents support for several types of Oblivion Remastered mods, including .esp/.esm, PAK, Lua/UE4SS, and Blueprint/Logic mods. The extension says it can automatically download UE4SS when needed. Its documentation also draws boundaries: it does not officially manage reshades, save-game or configuration edits, or mods that require external tools other than UE4SS. These are capabilities and limits of community tooling, not official Bethesda support. Vortex extension documentation and changelog
The mod scene has evolved since launch: the extension’s initial release was dated April 23, 2025, with later setup work and fixes recorded through June 3, 2025. Mod compatibility and tools can change, so consult the current extension documentation and each mod’s own page rather than assuming every older Oblivion mod works unchanged.
That caution matters because the remaster combines Unreal Engine 5 with Gamebryo, a combination PC Gamer identifies as an added complication for modders. The original game and its mod ecosystem do not automatically translate into one-click compatibility with the remaster.
