For a 24/7 prerecorded playlist in OBS, start with YouTube’s ingest settings: use RTMPS, H.264, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and a sustainable bitrate matched to your resolution and frame rate. Select AMD AMF only if OBS exposes it for your GPU and driver, then test the complete playlist and monitor the stream. A local OBS setup needs a computer and a stable upload connection running continuously; for a stream that must continue while your computer is off, a cloud service is another option.
Recommended OBS AMD settings for YouTube Live
These are YouTube’s platform recommendations for RTMP/RTMPS ingest, not a guarantee that a specific AMD GPU, driver, OBS build, or internet connection will sustain them. In OBS, open Settings > Output, select the AMD AMF encoder if available, and set the controls that your encoder exposes. OBS supports AMD Advanced Media Framework on Windows and Linux; update your GPU driver and verify compatibility before relying on it.

OBS’s available AMF controls can vary with GPU, driver, operating system, and OBS version. There is no universal AMF preset or rate-control option established for every combination, so do not assume a preset is optimal without testing it on your own setup.
Choose a bitrate that your connection can hold
YouTube’s H.264 recommendations give a useful starting point. They are platform recommendations, not a substitute for measuring upload capacity and stability. YouTube advises running a speed test; choose a bitrate your connection can sustain rather than setting it based only on a peak speed result.

More resolution or frames per second can provide more detail, particularly for motion, but also calls for more upload capacity. If the connection is unstable at the recommended bitrate, reduce output resolution or frame rate and test again. Keep the source playlist, OBS output, and selected bitrate aligned so the encoder is not asked to deliver a target your upload cannot maintain.
Set up and test the playlist stream
- Confirm AMF is available. Install a current AMD driver, open OBS, and check whether the AMD hardware encoder is available in Settings > Output. If it is missing, check GPU and driver compatibility rather than assuming a particular AMF preset will fix it. OBS’s hardware-encoding guidance covers supported platforms and recommends current drivers: OBS Project: Hardware Encoding.
- Set the YouTube ingest and output. In YouTube Live Control Room, configure the stream and copy the stream key into OBS’s stream settings. Use RTMPS where offered. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or include it in a recording or screenshot.
- Configure OBS. In Settings > Output, choose AMD AMF and H.264 if supported, set CBR, and enter a 2-second keyframe interval. Choose your resolution, frame rate, and a sustainable bitrate using the table above. Set the audio and SDR options to YouTube’s recommendations where OBS exposes those controls.
- Prepare the playlist. Check that the playlist order, media paths, audio levels, and transitions behave as intended. Test any loop or scene changes you depend on; an encoder connection alone does not verify that the playlist itself will continue correctly.
- Run a realistic test before relying on it. Start OBS ahead of the planned stream, use audio and movement similar to the real playlist, and check the preview and stream health in Live Control Room. Confirm the event is accessible from a viewer endpoint and inspect audio and video quality.
- Monitor during operation. Check the stream’s health and messages in Live Control Room and verify that the video and audio continue as expected. If you use local recording as an archive, YouTube’s event guidance recommends checking that the archive file continues growing and testing configured encoder failover. A test and monitoring plan reduce avoidable surprises but cannot guarantee uninterrupted operation.

Plan for stream keys, controls, and failure recovery
YouTube supports reusable stream settings and custom stream keys, and Live Control Room provides auto-start and auto-stop controls. Those settings govern stream management; they do not replace monitoring, a reliable local computer and connection, or a recovery plan if the encoder or connection fails. Review the current options in Create a live stream with an encoder.
A local 24/7 playlist depends on the computer, OBS process, power, network, and encoder remaining available. A stream may stop if any of those fail; do not treat YouTube’s auto-start or auto-stop settings as automatic recovery for a failed local setup. YouTube’s encoder directory also lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for continuous prerecorded video. Check any provider’s current capabilities, terms, and pricing independently before choosing it.

Troubleshooting common problems
