For a mostly static meditation stream, start with OBS set to H.264, constant bitrate (CBR), RTMPS, and a two-second keyframe interval. For YouTube’s H.264 guidance, use 1080p at 30 fps with 14 Mbps recommended (5 Mbps minimum), or 720p at 30 fps with 8 Mbps recommended (3 Mbps minimum). These are YouTube’s general encoder targets, not a special preset for meditation. Choose a bitrate your upload connection can sustain reliably, test the exact audio and visuals, and resolve music rights before scheduling a long broadcast.

Choose a resolution and bitrate your connection can sustain

A meditation scene with a still image or gentle motion usually does not need a high frame rate. Choose between 720p30 and 1080p30 based on the detail in the visual and, more importantly, whether your sustained upload capacity can support the bitrate reliably. YouTube’s 2026 H.264 guidance gives these targets:

Output YouTube H.264 minimum YouTube H.264 recommended
720p at 30 fps 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps 5 Mbps 14 Mbps

These figures are platform guidance, not guarantees that a particular connection or computer will hold a stream without interruption. Leave headroom above the selected bitrate for network variation and other household or workplace traffic. If YouTube reports an unstable connection or dropped frames, test at a lower bitrate or resolution rather than persisting with a target your upload cannot sustain.

OBS output settings for YouTube

YouTube’s current encoder recommendations specify H.264, constant bitrate, RTMPS, and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. It also supports H.265 and AV1 ingest, but use a codec that fits your chosen OBS and YouTube workflow. YouTube’s general advanced guidance lists stereo audio at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz. Confirm the output values in OBS and check the actual sound and picture in YouTube’s preview before a long session. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.

  • Video codec: H.264 for the targets above.
  • Rate control: CBR.
  • Keyframe interval: 2 seconds; YouTube’s stated maximum is 4 seconds.
  • Transport: RTMPS, which encrypts stream data in transit to Google’s servers.
  • Audio: AAC or MP3 is supported by YouTube’s encoder guidance; use 128 kbps stereo at 44.1 kHz as the general advanced-guidance target.
  • Resolution and frame rate: choose 1280 × 720 at 30 fps or 1920 × 1080 at 30 fps to match the bitrate targets in the table.

Connect OBS to YouTube and test the broadcast

  1. Prepare the scene in OBS. Add the meditation visual and the audio source or media playlist you intend to use. Test representative sections, including transitions and the loudest passages, so you can catch clipping, silence, or unexpected movement.
  2. Set video and output targets. In OBS, open Settings and set the output resolution and frame rate, then configure the encoder for H.264, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and the bitrate appropriate to your chosen resolution. Set audio to stereo at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz.
  3. Connect the YouTube event. Use OBS’s YouTube integration or set the service and stream details from YouTube Studio. Labels and event controls can change between software versions; check the current controls in your installed OBS and YouTube Studio rather than relying on an older walkthrough. YouTube’s available OBS setup video was published in 2015 and may not match the current interface: OBS Project’s YouTube setup walkthrough.
  4. Run a controlled test. Start with a private or otherwise controlled event. Check the YouTube preview for picture and sound, watch stream-health messages, and confirm the audio remains present through a representative playback period.
  5. Adjust before going public. If the stream is unstable, reduce the bitrate or resolution and test again. Do not assume a successful short test proves uninterrupted 24/7 operation.

Clear rights for both the composition and recording

Do not treat an encoder setting or a credit in the description as music permission. YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have the necessary rights for the live content and its use on Google services worldwide, including applicable music rights. A classical composition and a specific modern performance or recording can have separate rights. Confirm permissions for the actual track and for each intended use, including continuous livestreaming, territory, archive playback, and monetization where relevant. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A protected match can cause a placeholder, interruption, or termination if the material continues. YouTube also warns that even a creator with a license may be interrupted unless the rights owner adds the channel to its Content ID allowlist; an archived stream may receive a Content ID claim after the broadcast. See YouTube’s guidance on live-stream copyright issues and YouTube’s explanation of Content ID.

YouTube describes copyright-safe music as public-domain material or music used with permission. A “free” label or an attribution does not itself prevent a Content ID flag. YouTube points creators to its Audio Library and, in certain regions, Creator Music; check any external license for the precise permitted uses and ask the rights owner about allowlisting. No particular Indian classical catalog’s terms are established here, so verify each supplier and recording rather than assuming a general license covers a continuous stream.

Troubleshoot common problems

  • YouTube reports an unstable or poor connection: the upload connection may not be sustaining the selected bitrate. Lower the bitrate, or move from 1080p30 to 720p30, then repeat the controlled test and monitor stream health.
  • The stream is interrupted or shows a placeholder: YouTube may have detected third-party content. Review the event and any copyright notifications, confirm the exact track’s live-stream rights, and contact the rights owner about channel allowlisting if the license requires it.
  • The live broadcast works but the archive receives a claim: live permission does not necessarily settle archive rights. Check that the license covers archived playback and address any Content ID claim through the applicable rights-holder process.
  • Audio is silent, distorted, or inconsistent: verify the selected OBS audio source, stereo output, sample rate, and level, then listen to the YouTube preview during a representative test. The platform’s general target is 128 kbps stereo at 44.1 kHz.
  • The stream stops after the computer or connection fails: OBS settings cannot guarantee 24/7 uptime. A computer-based setup depends on the computer, OBS, power, and network remaining available; plan for those failure points and test your recovery process.
