Start with 1280×720 at 30 fps, H.264, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and 4 Mbps video bitrate—then verify that your specific hotspot can sustain it before attempting a continuous stream. YouTube recommends 4 Mbps for H.264 streams from 240p through 720p at 30 fps, but that is an encoder guideline, not a measurement or guarantee for any Indian carrier or location. For a 24/7 broadcast, sustained upload, power, device temperature, and data allowance matter as much as the OBS settings.
Recommended OBS settings to test first
| OBS setting | Starting value | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Output resolution | 1280×720 | A practical starting point for a variable or limited mobile upload. |
| Frame rate | 30 fps | Lower than 60 fps, reducing the bitrate needed for a given stream format. |
| Video encoder | H.264, using an encoder supported by your system | YouTube publishes the cited bitrate recommendations for H.264. |
| Rate control | CBR | Constant bitrate provides a steady target for the connection to sustain. |
| Video bitrate | 4,000 Kbps (4 Mbps) | YouTube recommends 4 Mbps for H.264 at 240p–720p and 30 fps. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | Matches YouTube’s recommended interval. |
| Audio | Stereo AAC, 128 Kbps | YouTube recommends 128 Kbps for stereo audio. |
These are settings to test, not proof that your 4G connection can hold the stream. YouTube advises choosing a quality your connection can reliably support, testing upload speed, using representative audio and movement, and monitoring stream health. Its published figures are not specific to India, a carrier, or a cell site. YouTube’s live encoder settings lists the platform recommendations.
Configure OBS and connect it to YouTube
- Set up the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and retrieve its stream key from the stream setup. Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel. Use the stream key for this broadcast in OBS; do not publish it in screenshots or chat.
- Open OBS settings. Go to Settings → Output. If you use Output Mode: Advanced, open the Streaming tab. Choose an H.264 encoder available on your computer, set Rate Control to CBR, and enter 4000 Kbps as the initial bitrate.
- Set keyframes. In the same streaming output settings, set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. OBS labels and encoder options can vary by version and hardware, so select the equivalent keyframe-interval control for your chosen encoder.
- Set video size and frame rate. Go to Settings → Video. Set the output (scaled) resolution to 1280×720 and the common FPS value to 30. If your canvas is larger, OBS may scale the output; make sure the displayed output resolution is 1280×720.
- Set audio. Go to Settings → Output → Streaming and choose AAC stereo at 128 Kbps, where those controls are available. YouTube lists 128 Kbps as its recommended stereo audio bitrate.
- Choose the ingest protocol and connect. YouTube supports RTMP and RTMPS and recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube or the applicable custom service option, and enter the stream key. If selecting a server manually, use the server details YouTube provides for the broadcast.
- Run a representative test. Start an unlisted or otherwise suitable test stream with the actual scene, movement, and audio you plan to broadcast. Check YouTube’s stream health and connection status while it runs. YouTube’s guidance says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream,” and recommends testing upload bitrate with a speed test. Review YouTube’s setup guidance before going live.
Choose a bitrate your hotspot can actually sustain
YouTube’s published H.264 recommendations give these reference points:
| H.264 output | YouTube recommended video bitrate | Approximate video payload for 24 hours |
|---|---|---|
| 240p–720p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps | 43.2 GB |
| 720p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 64.8 GB |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps | 108 GB |
The data figures are arithmetic estimates using bitrate × time ÷ 8 and decimal gigabytes. They count video payload only: audio, protocol overhead, retransmissions, and variable-rate behavior can add to actual usage, and carrier accounting may differ. They are not data-plan quotes. Check your plan’s allowance and run a shorter session before relying on it for a 24/7 broadcast. YouTube lists the bitrate recommendations in its encoder settings.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If 4 Mbps causes stream-health problems, reduce resolution or frame rate and test again rather than assuming the hotspot will recover. Change one setting at a time so you can identify what improves the result. A lower-bandwidth format may be more suitable, but the right setting depends on your location, carrier, equipment, and sustained upload—not just a short speed-test peak.
Test and maintain the connection for a long run
- Measure upload where the setup will operate. A brief peak speed result does not establish that the connection can hold the selected bitrate continuously. Test at the actual location and, where possible, at different times relevant to your intended schedule.
- Test the real broadcast workload. Use the same scenes, representative motion, and audio as the planned stream. Keep the test running long enough to observe whether stream health remains stable; no universal test duration can establish reliability for every carrier or location.
- Monitor YouTube stream health. Watch connection status during the test. If health deteriorates, lower output resolution or frame rate and retest, changing one setting at a time.
- Check operational constraints. Confirm power availability, device temperature, carrier terms, location-specific coverage, and the plan’s data allowance. These are checks, not guaranteed causes or fixes; no cited guidance establishes a particular Indian carrier’s 24/7 policy or your hotspot’s local performance.
- Troubleshoot the OBS connection if needed. If connection trouble persists, follow OBS’s stream-connection troubleshooting steps, which include testing a different server and checking whether network software is affecting OBS traffic.
Copyright and YouTube channel considerations
A stable encoder connection does not by itself make the stream permissible or suitable for monetization. Use content you have the rights to broadcast, including music and other material in the game or video, and check applicable platform rules before running a loop for extended periods. YouTube’s copyright safety checklist can help you review rights-related questions. YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple formats for viewers, so OBS does not need to send a separate rendition for every viewer device. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance describes its live-stream format support.
