Choose a resolution and frame rate your upload connection can sustain: YouTube recommends 4 Mbps for H.264 at 720p30 or 5 Mbps at 1080p30, with about 20% upload bandwidth headroom beyond the stream’s total bitrate. These settings help configure the encoder; they do not guarantee a nonstop broadcast. You still need to test and monitor the stream.
Choose settings that fit the visual and your connection
For a simple still image or slowly changing visual, higher resolution is not automatically better. A lower, stable bitrate is preferable to a sharper stream that repeatedly buffers or drops. YouTube’s H.264 recommendations give these two practical starting points:

The bitrate figures are YouTube recommendations for the specified H.264 modes, not measurements of your connection. Add the audio bitrate to the video bitrate when estimating the total. YouTube advises keeping roughly 20% upload capacity beyond that total; allow more if other people or devices share the connection. In OBS, open Settings and check the Output, Video, and Audio pages for the corresponding encoder and output controls. Exact control names and availability can vary with OBS version and selected encoder. The values above are platform recommendations; they are not a tested profile for a particular computer, OBS version, bhajan file, or internet connection. Set up the YouTube stream and connect OBS
- Check live-stream eligibility. Your channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction during the previous 90 days, according to YouTube’s general live-streaming guidance. First-time live streaming can take up to 24 hours to become available. Check the current YouTube live streaming tips for computer if the option is missing.
- Create or schedule an encoder stream in YouTube Studio. Set the title, description, and visibility that suit the channel. Scheduled-stream privacy options include public, private, and unlisted. YouTube also provides DVR and latency controls; for a prerecorded bhajan playlist that is not interactive, low latency is generally less important than stable playback. Details are in Manage live stream settings.
- Copy the stream URL and key into OBS. Use YouTube’s provided server URL and stream key in OBS’s streaming settings. The key lets YouTube accept the encoder feed, so treat it like a password. Do not share it; reset it in YouTube Studio if it is exposed.
- Select RTMPS and configure the video and audio profile. Apply the codec, rate control, keyframe, bitrate, and audio values above, then confirm the selected resolution and frame rate are the ones you intend to send.
- Start a test and check YouTube’s preview before going public. Use the actual playlist or representative bhajan audio and visual. Confirm that playback is smooth, the audio is present and at an appropriate level, and YouTube reports healthy stream status. YouTube explicitly advises testing before a live stream.
- Start the broadcast from YouTube Studio when the preview is ready. Starting the OBS encoder sends the feed to YouTube; depending on the stream workflow, you may also need to start the live broadcast in Studio. Confirm the live state in the control room.
YouTube automatically transcodes the incoming stream into multiple playback formats for viewers. You choose the resolution and bitrate sent to YouTube; you do not need to create every viewer rendition yourself. RTMPS is sufficient for the conventional H.264 stereo setup described here. YouTube’s HLS setup guidance notes that HLS has higher latency than RTMP, so it is not a necessary choice for this use case.
Make a playlist broadcast safer to operate
An encoder profile cannot guarantee that a playlist will run continuously. OBS, the computer, the connection, the source media, and YouTube’s ingest can all affect continuity. YouTube advises creators to monitor stream health and quality. Keep an eye on OBS and YouTube Studio while the stream is live, especially after launch or any change to the playlist or network.

- Test the complete source path, not just a short sample of a different file. Verify that the playlist advances as intended and that audio remains present.
- Check YouTube’s preview and stream-health indicators before relying on the broadcast.
- Use a stable wired connection where practical, and avoid saturating the same upload connection with other large transfers.
- Keep the stream key private. If someone else obtains it, reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Do not assume that a computer sleep setting, OBS crash, network outage, or YouTube interruption will be recovered automatically by OBS. The official sources cited here do not establish a specific playlist configuration or restart mechanism that guarantees uninterrupted operation.
Clear music rights before you go live
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies protected material, it may replace the broadcast with a placeholder image, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. Permission to use a recording should cover the intended use and territories, and rights to the sound recording and the underlying composition are distinct matters to confirm.
If you have licensed third-party content, YouTube says to ask the owner to add your channel to their Content ID allowlist. A license by itself may not prevent a live interruption if the channel is not allowlisted. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams before broadcasting music.

Common problems and what to check
- YouTube does not offer live streaming: Check channel verification, recent live-stream restrictions, and whether first-time activation is still processing. YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours.
- The preview buffers or stream health is poor: Check actual upload stability and total bitrate, including audio. Reduce the video mode or bitrate if necessary, and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% bandwidth headroom.
- The feed is rejected or fails to connect: Confirm that OBS is using the current YouTube stream URL and key, that the key has not been reset, and that the encoder settings and protocol match the selected stream configuration.
- Video appears but audio is missing or distorted: Check the selected OBS audio source, stereo routing, levels, and that the output uses AAC or MP3 with the recommended stereo settings. Test the same media path before going live.
- The stream is interrupted after music is detected: Resolve the rights issue with the owner and, for licensed third-party material, request Content ID allowlisting for the channel. Re-check the stream before restarting.
- The playlist stops or OBS disconnects: Check the source’s playback behavior, OBS status, computer power and sleep settings, and connection. The cited YouTube and OBS sources do not verify a particular OBS playlist or automatic-restart recipe as a guarantee of nonstop operation.
