For a Punjabi Gurbani playlist with a still image or slowly changing artwork, start with 720p at 30 fps, H.264, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and RTMPS. YouTube recommends 8 Mbps for H.264 video at 720p30; for more legible artwork or text, 1080p30 at its recommended 14 Mbps is a reasonable step up if your encoder and sustained upload capacity can handle it. Those settings help deliver a stable stream, but they do not establish whether you have the rights to broadcast the recordings.
Recommended OBS settings for a Gurbani playlist
A devotional playlist is usually audio-led, so a high frame rate is rarely useful for a static image or slow visual. Begin with this profile, then test the complete stream under the network conditions you expect during the broadcast.

YouTube’s encoder guidance is undated and was accessed in 2026. Settings and labels can vary by OBS version and by the encoder you select; choose the equivalent options available in your installation.
Choose resolution and bitrate for the visual and connection
Use the output that makes the visual readable without exceeding what your upload connection and encoder can reliably maintain. YouTube’s H.264 recommendations are:

These are YouTube’s H.264 video recommendations, not total stream bandwidth figures and not guarantees of performance. YouTube recommends keeping 20% room above the full stream bitrate. Test sustained upload in realistic household or venue conditions: other people and devices can reduce the bandwidth available to the streaming computer. If capacity fluctuates or is marginal, lower resolution or bitrate before the broadcast rather than accepting repeated dropped frames.
Although YouTube supports H.265/HEVC and AV1 as well as H.264, use an alternative only if your OBS encoder and YouTube ingestion setup support it and you can test it end to end. YouTube’s recommended bitrates differ by codec, so do not carry the H.264 numbers over to AV1 or H.265.

Set up YouTube Live and OBS
- Create the encoder stream: In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create or schedule an encoder stream.
- Connect OBS: In OBS stream settings, select YouTube or YouTube RTMPS if available. Otherwise, enter the server URL and stream key shown in YouTube’s Live Control Room. The stream key tells the encoder where to send the feed and allows YouTube to accept it. Keep it private; reset it if it is exposed.
- Set video output: Choose the intended resolution and frame rate, then set the encoder to H.264, rate control to CBR, and keyframe interval to 2 seconds. Set the video bitrate using YouTube’s recommendation for your selected H.264 output, while staying within tested upload capacity.
- Set and check audio: Use stereo at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps as a platform starting point, with AAC or MP3. Make sure OBS captures the intended playlist audio through the correct desktop or application audio source. Check the meters and listen for clipping or unwanted system sounds.
- Start a test and inspect it: Start streaming from OBS and check the preview in YouTube’s Live Control Room before promoting or relying on the broadcast. Test in advance with audio and movement similar to the real stream, and monitor stream health and audio/video quality.
Confirm rights for the exact Gurbani recordings
A Gurbani text, composition, or devotional purpose does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast a particular commercial recording. Rights can differ between the underlying composition and the sound recording, and the permission must cover your intended territories, live broadcast, and any archived replay. YouTube’s livestream terms say the provider represents that it has the necessary rights, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and issue a warning; if the content remains, the broadcast can be interrupted or terminated. A license may not prevent interruption if the rights owner has not added your channel to its Content ID allowlist. An archived live stream can also receive a Content ID claim after the broadcast.

- Get permission for the specific recording and confirm it covers live streaming and, if relevant, an archived replay.
- Ask the rights holder whether your channel needs to be added to a Content ID allowlist.
- Keep permission and license records. Attribution, a “free” label, or a purchase alone does not prove that the required live and archive rights are included.
