If an OBS update has broken your 24/7 YouTube stream, first protect the setup that still opens: export the active Profile and Scene Collection separately. Then choose the earlier OBS release that matches your operating system, install or isolate that version, and verify the full production before relying on it. A rollback cannot guarantee uninterrupted YouTube playback, so check the live status in YouTube Studio before reconnecting or restarting.
Before rolling back, back up both parts of your OBS setup
OBS keeps broadcast settings and production layout in separate places. A Profile contains settings such as stream, video, and output configuration; a Scene Collection contains the scenes and sources. OBS’s Profiles guide explicitly warns: “Profiles do NOT store your Scenes — use Scene Collections.” (OBS Profiles guide, published January 14, 2022.)
If OBS still opens, export each separately and save the files somewhere the rollback installer will not overwrite.
- Export the Profile: Open the Profile menu and choose Import/Export, then export the active Profile. OBS exports Profile settings as JSON, which can be imported into another installation.
- Export the Scene Collection: Use the separate Scene Collection menu to export the active collection. Do not assume the Profile export includes it.
- Keep the backups outside the OBS installation folder. Label them with the Profile or collection name and the date, so you can identify the correct files when restoring.
If OBS will not open, these menu-based exports are unavailable. The official material cited here does not provide a universal manual recovery procedure; exact configuration-file steps vary by operating system. Do not assume reinstalling will preserve or restore every setting, plugin, media file, or credential.

Choose the rollback route that fits your system
The official OBS releases archive is the place to identify the version you want and find its platform-specific package: OBS Studio releases. Check the release entry and operating-system package carefully. The release archive changes over time; on October 3, 2026, it listed stable OBS Studio 32.2.2 and prerelease 33.0.0-beta4. Those are date-specific observations, not a recommendation to install either version now.
Download from the official release archive or official OBS download route, not an unofficial mirror. OBS’s Help Portal provides support entry points, but does not document one universal rollback process for every operating system.

Replacing the installed version
Use the package for your operating system from the release you selected. Treat the exported Profile and Scene Collection as backups, not proof that every setting or dependency will transfer cleanly. Where practical, first test the older version with copies of the exported configuration rather than your only saved setup.
Testing a separate Windows portable build
OBS’s Running in Portable Mode guide, published July 23, 2024, describes a Windows ZIP-based setup that keeps configuration alongside the application. That can help you check whether a different OBS version behaves differently without sharing your normal installation’s configuration.

Portable mode does not automatically carry scene media files. Verify that each source’s media path resolves in the portable setup; do not assume moving the portable directory makes external or relative paths work. The cited guide does not support portable mode on macOS or Linux.
Restore the setup and validate it before production
After opening the selected build, check the items your 24/7 production depends on. These checks are operational precautions, not a guarantee that a particular OBS version or plugin will work.

- Confirm the intended Profile and Scene Collection are selected.
- Inspect scene and source visibility, and verify that media sources open from their current paths.
- Check the YouTube service and account or stream-key configuration. Do not assume credentials were preserved or transferred.
- Verify output resolution, frame rate, audio routing, and that the chosen encoder is available.
- Check any plugins your setup relies on; compatibility with a newer or older OBS build is not guaranteed by the rollback itself.
Check YouTube Studio before reconnecting the encoder
If OBS is already disconnected, inspect the actual broadcast state in YouTube Studio’s live control room before deciding whether to reconnect, restart the encoder, or create a new event. Do not assume a restart will preserve the same live event, URL, archive, viewer session, or uninterrupted playback. The available official OBS sources do not establish YouTube’s event-continuity behavior after an encoder disconnect.
