1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor most creators building a 24/7 guided meditation stream, OBS is the better starting point. Its documented scenes and sources make it straightforward to combine prerecorded video or audio with a background, titles, and transitions; its Media Source can loop a file, and OBS includes an automatic reconnect setting. FFmpeg is a reasonable choice for a fixed, scripted pipeline, but its exact looping and recovery behavior depends on the installed build and setup. Do not rely on an untested command to keep a stream unattended.
Both tools must meet YouTube’s ingest requirements. The real choice is whether you want a graphical production workflow you can inspect and operate, or a command-line pipeline you have verified end to end.
OBS vs. FFmpeg: which fits a meditation stream?
| Decision | OBS | FFmpeg |
|---|---|---|
| Workflow | Graphical scene-and-source workflow; useful for arranging background media, titles, and other visual elements. | Command-line workflow can suit a fixed input and output, but the official FFmpeg behavior needed for this comparison was not established here. |
| Looping a media file | OBS Media Source has a Loop option to replay a file after it ends. | Check the documentation for your installed build and test the exact command. No version-specific looping behavior is established here. |
| Recovery | OBS documents an automatic reconnect setting. It can help with a dropped connection, but it does not make the entire setup fault-proof. | Reconnect and process-supervision behavior are version- and setup-dependent; verify and test them before relying on unattended operation. |
| Best fit | A creator who wants visible controls, scene composition, and a workflow that is easier to inspect during operation. | An operator who prefers scripting and can validate the full pipeline, including restarts and network recovery. |
This is a workflow recommendation, not a performance benchmark. No comparative long-duration reliability test is established. YouTube’s ingest requirements apply whichever encoder you use.
Set up OBS for a looping meditation stream
1. Build the scene
- In OBS, create a scene for the stream, then add the visual source or sources you need. For a simple stream, that might be a background video or image and a title with the session name.
- Add a Media Source for prerecorded video or audio. Enable its Loop option so the file replays after it ends. Preview the transition at the end of the file: check for a black frame, silence, an abrupt cut, or a pause that would be distracting during meditation.
- If you use separate audio, confirm the correct source is audible in the OBS mixer and that the level is consistent. Listen for clipping, silence, unwanted system sounds, and abrupt changes between loop iterations.
- Run the scene long enough to observe at least one complete loop. A file that plays once successfully is not necessarily a clean continuous loop.
2. Configure YouTube and the encoder
- In YouTube Studio, create or select the live stream and copy its stream key. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose the YouTube service, and enter the key. Treat it as a password: do not show it on screen, publish it, or share it. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the stream as it travels to and through Google’s servers; select it where your YouTube and OBS setup offers that option.
- In Settings → Output, set the video encoder’s rate control to CBR. Choose a bitrate that matches your output codec, resolution, and frame rate; YouTube’s recommended H.264 examples are 4 Mbps for 720p30, 8 Mbps for 720p60, 10 Mbps for 1080p30, and 14 Mbps for 1080p60. These are recommendations, not a guarantee that your encoder or connection can sustain the selected rate.
- Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds where the encoder exposes it. YouTube recommends two seconds and says the interval should not exceed four seconds.
- YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS transport; H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video; up to 60 fps; AAC or MP3 audio; and CBR. Choose settings supported by both your encoder and the stream configuration, and check YouTube’s guidance for the exact codec-and-output row rather than treating one bitrate as universal.
3. Test the whole chain before going public
- Run a private or unlisted test with audio and movement similar to the intended stream. Confirm that YouTube receives the stream and that the picture, sound, and loop are correct.
- Watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators and messages. Check the stream on another device if possible so you hear what viewers will hear, not only what the OBS mixer shows.
- Run an internet speed test. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the stream’s bitrate; other upload traffic can consume that margin.
- Test what happens when the network briefly drops, the media source stops, or OBS is restarted. Confirm whether the stream reconnects, whether playback resumes as intended, and how an operator will notice a failure. OBS’s reconnect setting is helpful, not a substitute for testing the full setup.
- Decide whether to enable YouTube’s DVR control and which latency option suits the stream. YouTube notes that lower latency can increase playback buffering; DVR lets viewers pause and resume a live stream.
Using FFmpeg: choose it only with a verified pipeline
FFmpeg may be a good fit if you already operate command-line media workflows and want a fixed input-to-output pipeline. The missing piece is not whether a command can start a stream; it is whether your exact build and process setup reliably loops the intended media and recovers from network loss or a process failure.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Validate these items for your installed build
- Confirm the documented looping method for the input type and FFmpeg version you will use, then verify that the transition has no unwanted gap, silence, or visual discontinuity.
- Confirm the output protocol, codec, rate control, bitrate, audio format, frame rate, and keyframe interval meet YouTube’s current encoder guidance.
- Determine what happens when the network drops, YouTube closes the connection, the input ends, or the FFmpeg process exits. A reconnect option, if available for your build and output, is not the same as restarting a failed process.
- Use an external process supervisor or other restart plan only after checking its behavior and testing it with your actual machine, network, and stream. Make sure logs or alerts let someone know that the stream stopped.
- Run a representative test before relying on the stream unattended, including a network interruption and a process restart. Verify both YouTube’s stream health and the viewer-facing playback.
No universal FFmpeg command is given here: the required options and recovery behavior were not established for a specific FFmpeg version, input, or operating system. Use the documentation for the build you actually install rather than copying a command that may not match your setup.
Copyright and YouTube channel considerations
Only stream audio, video, artwork, and other material you have permission to use for a live broadcast. A meditation track being available online does not by itself grant the right to rebroadcast it. Keep records of licenses or permissions for music, spoken guidance, visuals, and any other third-party material. A live stream can also be interrupted or claimed if its content triggers rights enforcement.

Looping a recording does not make it original or automatically suitable for monetization. YouTube’s reused-content and monetization decisions depend on the channel and its content; do not assume that leaving a prerecorded loop live establishes eligibility. Check YouTube’s current policies for your channel and region before planning around monetization.
