It does not, by itself, prove JioFiber is at fault. Check bitrate against dependable upload, compare Ethernet with Wi-Fi, run MyJio diagnostics, then test whether the problem occurs only when sending to YouTube.
What OBS dropped frames tell you
The OBS Project’s Stream Connection Troubleshooting guide, dated September 30, 2024, explains: “Dropped frames means that your connection to remote server isn’t stable or you can’t keep up with your set bitrate.” That points to delivery between your computer and the remote ingest server, but the possible cause could be local Wi-Fi, the router, competing household traffic, security or VPN software, network drivers, the ISP connection, the intervening route, or the destination’s ingest service.
In OBS, distinguish network-related dropped frames from rendering lag or encoder overload in the Stats window. If dropped frames rise while rendering and encoding lag remain low, focus on network delivery first. If those other counters rise instead, investigate GPU/rendering or encoder load as well; changing JioFiber settings alone may not address it.
Set a bitrate your connection can sustain
YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance recommends testing upload, choosing settings reliable for the connection, and monitoring stream health. Its published recommendations below are for H.264; they are platform ingest targets, not evidence that a particular JioFiber connection can sustain them continuously.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| H.264 output | YouTube recommended video bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 or 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
YouTube publishes different recommendations for AV1 and H.265/HEVC, so do not apply these H.264 figures to another codec. Check the current YouTube guidance and the encoder options in your OBS version before choosing settings.
Use stable upload, not a speed-test peak
OBS suggests starting at about 75% of total upload speed. Treat that as a starting point, not a guarantee: a brief speed-test result does not show whether the connection can hold a constant stream rate through dips or household upload spikes. Keep the video bitrate within YouTube’s recommendation when the dependable upload allows it. If it does not, lower bitrate and reduce resolution or frame rate as needed rather than relying on a peak measurement.

For example, if a connection briefly tests above a target but drops below it during a representative stream, the headline speed is not dependable capacity. Lower the target and rerun the same test. OBS’s dynamic bitrate option can reduce bitrate during congestion, but the trade-off is lower image quality; it may soften interruptions without fixing their underlying cause.
Check the encoder settings that affect delivery
YouTube’s current guidance specifies RTMP or RTMPS delivery, H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted delivery. Match the codec-specific bitrate recommendation to your resolution and frame rate, then confirm the protocol and encoder settings in the current OBS interface.

Run controlled tests to find where frames are lost
Change one condition at a time and keep the stream content, duration, output settings, and test window as similar as practical. YouTube advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Use a private or unlisted test if appropriate for your channel, and monitor both OBS Stats and YouTube stream health.
- Record a baseline. Note the time, OBS dropped-frame percentage and pattern, output resolution, frame rate, codec, video bitrate, and whether the computer is on Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Use gameplay with motion and audio similar to the actual stream so the test represents the real workload.
- Compare against dependable upload. Check the configured bitrate against the relevant YouTube recommendation and sustained upload capacity. If the bitrate is too close to the connection’s ceiling, lower it; if necessary, reduce resolution or frame rate too. Repeat the baseline test and record whether dropped frames change.
- Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet. If the computer is wireless, connect it to the router by Ethernet without changing OBS settings, then repeat the test. A clear improvement points toward the local wireless link or its conditions. It does not prove that the external JioFiber route is fault-free.
- Run MyJio diagnostics. In the MyJio app, open Home, choose JioCare, then tap Run Diagnostics. Jio says this checks connection health, router status, device configuration, Wi-Fi strength, and connectivity, with guided actions such as restarting the router, checking cables or settings, and improving Wi-Fi coverage. Follow the account-specific result and raise a service request if the issue persists. See Jio’s Run Diagnostics instructions.
- Compare another destination. With equivalent practical settings, test a different streaming service. If that works while YouTube does not, the result is a reason to investigate the YouTube path or ingest further—not conclusive proof of a route fault, and not a fix for the original stream.
- Isolate local software and network variables. OBS identifies VPNs, security software, bundled network-priority tools, and outdated network drivers as possible sources of interference. Temporarily isolate one variable at a time, and restore security protections afterward. Get driver updates from your device or motherboard maker. On Windows, OBS documents network optimizations and TCP pacing as options some users report can help; leave Bind to IP at Default. Its guide also documents IPv4-only as a test: if it changes nothing, return to the IPv4/IPv6 default.
- Escalate with evidence. If drops continue on Ethernet at a conservative bitrate through repeated representative tests, save the OBS log and note timestamps, settings, and the results of the comparisons. Contact JioFiber support and ask them to check the line or service. OBS also advises contacting the ISP after its troubleshooting steps fail.
What MyJio can—and cannot—establish
Jio’s diagnostics guidance and JioFiber troubleshooting and Wi-Fi coverage help cover in-home connection health, router and device configuration, Wi-Fi strength, coverage, interference, and competing heavy use. These checks can identify local problems, but the published support material does not diagnose the route from an individual subscriber to YouTube’s ingest servers.

There is not enough evidence here to say that Jio is throttling YouTube, that a named Jio route is faulty, or that changing DNS or using a VPN will repair the stream. To narrow a specific case, support needs relevant details such as location, plan upload rate, OBS settings and log, timestamps, wired-versus-wireless results, and whether another destination behaves differently.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a dropped-frame counter prove JioFiber is the problem?
No. It indicates unstable delivery or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain, but does not identify which part of the path is responsible.
Should I use a VPN or change DNS to fix YouTube dropped frames?
The official guidance cited here does not establish either change as a remedy for this JioFiber-to-YouTube issue.
