If OBS keeps reconnecting to YouTube Live, first check whether OBS is dropping network frames or YouTube is reporting an encoder or stream-key problem. Rising network-dropped frames point toward an unstable connection to YouTube’s ingest server or a bitrate your upload path cannot sustain. On Windows, test a lower bitrate, wired Ethernet, OBS network settings, VPN and security software, and your router connection—one change at a time. Official OBS and YouTube guidance does not identify a special India-only setting or a current outage at any Indian ISP.
First identify where the stream is failing
Before changing settings, run a short test stream and compare OBS with YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube recommends testing before an event with movement and audio similar to the real stream, then monitoring stream health. YouTube’s encoder guidance and live-stream troubleshooting page explain the platform-side checks; OBS describes its connection indicators in its stream connection troubleshooting guide.
- OBS’s network dropped-frame counter rises or its connection indicator changes: investigate upload stability and the route from your PC to YouTube’s ingest server. OBS says dropped frames can mean the connection is unstable or the configured bitrate is too high for it; enough drops can disconnect the stream.
- YouTube reports an encoder or stream-key error at startup: follow the separate stream-key check below rather than treating it as a recurring network drop.
- The picture or audio is already poor inside the encoder: examine local sources and CPU or encoder load. That is different from a healthy local output that YouTube reports as having connection trouble.
Record the time of each failure and the exact OBS and YouTube messages. Change one thing per test; otherwise, you will not know which change affected the result.
Lower bitrate to what your connection can sustain
A high advertised upload speed or a brief speed-test peak does not establish what your connection can sustain throughout a stream. OBS’s 2024 connection guide suggests starting video bitrate at 75% of total upload speed, but that is a starting point—not a guarantee. Use stable upload capacity as your guide and reduce video bitrate in OBS → Settings → Output if network drops continue.

YouTube’s encoder page gives H.264 examples of 6 Mbps minimum and 17 Mbps recommended for 1080p60, and 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended for 1080p30. These are YouTube’s platform recommendations for those settings, not proof that a particular home connection can deliver them reliably. Choose a stream quality that fits the connection rather than chasing the highest setting.
For YouTube, the accessed encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS protocols and H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 codecs; it recommends RTMPS. It specifies CBR bitrate encoding, up to 60 fps, a recommended 2-second keyframe interval, and says not to exceed 4 seconds. Check YouTube’s current table for your chosen resolution, codec, and frame rate, then prioritize a stable stream.

Test OBS network options on Windows
OBS documents these options under Settings → Advanced → Network. Treat them as controlled troubleshooting tests, not guaranteed fixes:
- Enable Network Optimizations and TCP pacing, then test whether dropped frames continue.
- Keep Bind to IP set to Default.
- If the problem persists, try IP Family set to IPv4 Only as an isolation test. If it does not help, restore IPv4 and IPv6.
- OBS also offers beta Dynamic Bitrate adjustment. It may reduce frame drops by lowering bitrate during congestion, but stream quality can fall and the underlying connection issue remains.
Isolate Wi-Fi, software, and local equipment
Use short, comparable test streams and keep notes on the time and result. Avoid changing several parts of the setup at once.

- Wi-Fi: If the PC is wireless, test it connected to the router by Ethernet. OBS recommends a wired connection because Wi-Fi can be unstable. A cable is useful here as a diagnostic; it cannot fix an ISP route or YouTube-side problem by itself.
- VPN: Temporarily disconnect the VPN for a controlled test. If that changes the result, investigate its routing or configuration before relying on it during a stream.
- Security software: If you suspect interference, test temporarily, then add an OBS exception and re-enable the protection if the test confirms it was involved.
- Network optimizers: Check for vendor utilities that claim to boost or prioritize network traffic. Test their effect rather than assuming they help.
- Drivers and hardware: Check for current network drivers from the PC or motherboard manufacturer. Inspect the network adapter, cable, modem, and router; restart the modem and router. Do not replace equipment without evidence of a fault. OBS advises checking with your ISP if you are unsure about the hardware.
When to contact your ISP in India
If bitrate reduction, Ethernet, OBS settings, and local-software checks do not resolve the drops, ask your ISP to investigate the connection and route to YouTube’s ingest service. OBS notes that unexpected congestion or changes along a route can affect streaming; YouTube also recommends contacting the ISP when connection testing identifies a problem. The official guidance reviewed does not establish an India-wide fault or identify a particular Indian provider as the cause.

- Dates and exact times of disconnections, including your time zone.
- Whether OBS’s dropped-frame counter rose and what YouTube Live Control Room reported.
- Your upload-test results and the bitrate used during each test.
- Whether Ethernet behaved differently from Wi-Fi, and whether disabling a VPN or other network software changed the outcome.
- Whether other devices or services on the same connection showed trouble at those times.
If the error happens when starting the stream
A recurring disconnect during an active stream is different from YouTube rejecting a third-party encoder at startup. For a startup or stream-key error, YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance says to create a new stream key in Live Control Room and update the encoder with it. If you sign in to YouTube from streaming software without using a stream key, YouTube directs you to that software’s support team.
