Start with a direct wall outlet, a known-good USB-C cable and charger, and leave the Quest 2 powered off or asleep for at least two hours. Then disconnect accessories and try a hard reboot before considering a factory reset. A black screen or 0% reading alone does not prove the battery has failed.
Match the symptom to the first check

Meta’s support guidance recommends a two-hour charge while the headset is off or asleep, followed by tests with another source, cable, and charger. Charge from a wall outlet for at least two hours
- Turn the headset off if possible; otherwise leave it asleep.
- Connect it directly to a wall adapter and outlet, without a computer, hub, dock, or battery accessory in the charging path.
- Leave it undisturbed for at least two hours. Avoid repeatedly pressing the power button during this test.
- Try powering it on normally afterward.
Two hours is Meta’s troubleshooting threshold, not a promise that every headset will be fully charged in that time. Battery condition, temperature, charger, cable, and whether the headset is awake all affect the result. A computer port may charge more slowly or inconsistently; some ports stop supplying power when the computer sleeps, and an operating headset may use more power than the port provides. Test the outlet, cable, and adapter separately
Check the outlet and charging source
- Plug another known-working device into the same outlet, then try a different wall outlet.
- For the initial test, bypass power strips, extension cords, USB hubs, monitor ports, docks, and computer ports.
- Use a wall adapter. A USB-C cable alone is not a charger; the adapter is the part that connects to the wall.
Check the cable
- Inspect both connectors and the cable for looseness, fraying, bent metal, scorching, or debris.
- Try a different known-good USB-C cable. If available, test the original cable with another suitable device.
- If the connector or cable design permits, reversing the USB-C plug is a diagnostic check, not a repair.
- Stop using a cable that gets hot, disconnects when gently moved, or works only when held at an angle.
Check the adapter
Try a different compatible, known-good wall adapter. USB-C describes the connector shape; it does not guarantee that two cables, adapters, computer ports, or hubs will provide the same charging performance. Remove accessories and test without the facial interface
Disconnect the Elite Strap with Battery, third-party battery straps, docks, external battery packs, USB-C fans, headphones, adapters, Link cables, and magnetic charging connectors. These are isolation steps: they remove extra power paths and variables, but do not by themselves prove an accessory is defective. Meta also suggests trying a charge without the facial interface because some interfaces may affect the proximity sensor and the headset’s power state. Disconnect the charger, carefully remove the interface, connect the bare headset directly to the wall charger, and leave it off or asleep. Hard-reboot a headset that may be frozen
- Hold Power and Volume Down together for approximately 30 seconds.
- Release when you hear the boot sound or see the boot menu.
- If the menu appears, use the volume buttons to highlight the normal boot or reboot option, then press Power to select it.
Meta support responses use labels such as “Boot Device” and “Reboot Device”; the wording can vary. A hard reboot is not a factory reset. Do not select “Factory Reset” just because the menu appears. Seeing a boot menu means some electronics are responding, but it does not confirm that the battery or charging circuit is healthy. Inspect the USB-C port without forcing anything
Disconnect the charger and use a bright light to look for lint, dust, bent parts, looseness, discoloration, or signs of heat. Do not force a plug, pry against the port, or insert metal tools or liquid. If debris is visibly accessible and can be removed without force, use an appropriate nonconductive method. Stop if the port is loose, bent, burnt, or moves inside the housing; continued plugging and unplugging can worsen damage.

Use a factory reset only as a last software step
A factory reset may help if a software or boot-state problem remains plausible after charging-path tests and a hard reboot. It will not repair a failed cable, adapter, port, battery, or charging circuit, and it erases locally stored headset data and settings. - Hold Power + Volume Down until the boot menu appears.
- Use the volume buttons to highlight Factory Reset.
- Press Power to select it, and confirm only if you understand the data consequences.

Know when to stop and contact Meta or seek repair
After trying a different outlet, a known-good wall adapter and cable, a two-hour off-state charge, accessory removal, and a hard reboot, further home troubleshooting is unlikely to identify or fix a headset-side hardware fault. Contact Meta Quest Help or a reputable repair provider if:
- the headset remains unresponsive after those tests;
- the port is loose, damaged, or charges only when the plug is angled;
- it repeatedly cycles through the logo and low-battery icon or stays at 0–1% despite prolonged charging;
- there was liquid exposure or an impact; or
- you are not comfortable inspecting the port or deciding whether to reset.
Have the headset serial number and purchase information ready, along with the symptoms, the outlets/cables/adapters tested, and any history of drops or liquid exposure. Stop charging if there are signs of damage or overheating
Disconnect the headset and stop troubleshooting if it or its connector becomes abnormally hot, smells burnt, appears swollen or cracked, or has been exposed to liquid. Do not open the headset unless you have the relevant repair skills and accept the risk of damage and possible effects on applicable coverage.
