Oddworld: New ’n’ Tasty is a remake of Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee, not a separate story. Abe is a Mudokon who works as a floor waxer at RuptureFarms. When he overhears his boss’s plan to turn the factory’s Mudokon workers into food products, Abe tries to escape and rescue his fellow Mudokons. That premise is the starting point for the remake and its connection to Abe’s Oddysee.
Is New ’n’ Tasty a remake of Abe’s Oddysee?
Yes. Steam describes New ’n’ Tasty as built from scratch to reignite the original game; the Steam listing names Just Add Water as developer and Oddworld Inhabitants as publisher for the PC release. That makes it a remake of Abe’s Oddysee, rather than an unrelated new entry. On Metacritic, the game had an 84 Metascore from 50 critic reviews and a 7.7 user score from 425 ratings when the page was accessed on October 8, 2026. The clearest documented comparison is the presentation and perspective. Metacritic describes New ’n’ Tasty as using a 2.5D visual presentation and says the gameplay and puzzles were changed to suit it. - Presentation and perspective: decide whether the remake’s 2.5D approach appeals to you.
- Movement and puzzles: the remake adapts gameplay and puzzles to that presentation, so consider whether you want the updated design or the original version.
- Structure and challenge: look for a review that directly compares the versions and explains how the changes affect play. The evidence here does not establish a particular control or difficulty verdict.

Ratings vary by region, so use the one relevant to your market rather than treating either label as universal. Is New ’n’ Tasty worth playing?
The case for trying it is straightforward: it revisits Abe’s Oddysee in a rebuilt presentation, and the available critic and player aggregates are favorable. The main point to weigh is the remake’s 2.5D perspective and the gameplay and puzzle changes made for it. If your priority is seeing how the remake reshapes the original, seek out a comparison that addresses those changes directly; if you want the original’s specific design, the remake’s favorable scores alone cannot tell you whether it is a substitute you will enjoy.
