Update the client and game, complete the game’s first setup while online, then switch Steam to Offline Mode and shut it down normally. The evidence available supports ten possible game picks—not twelve individually verified offline recommendations—so check each title’s current listing and launcher requirements before relying on it.
What “offline” means on a Windows 10 PC
There are two separate questions: does a game have single-player content, and can your copy start and run when the PC has no internet? A game can answer yes to the first and still require an initial activation, account check, external launcher, or online setup. Steam says games that require an active connection or an external launcher will not work in Steam Offline Mode. Features that need a connection are unavailable there, too. Steam Support’s Offline Mode guidance explains the relevant limitations.
The candidate names below come from an editorial roundup, not primary-source confirmation of offline operation. Treat them as a shortlist to check—not a tested ranking or a guarantee. The available evidence does not establish Windows 10 requirements, offline behavior, current editions, or activation caveats for most of these games.
Ten candidates to check before you go offline
| Game | What the available evidence establishes | Offline check before relying on it |
|---|---|---|
| Stardew Valley | Steam lists it as single-player and gives Windows minimums of a 2 GHz processor, 2 GB RAM, DirectX 10, and 500 MB storage. Steam listing | A single-player listing and modest minimums do not prove offline launch in every configuration. Complete setup online and confirm it starts in Offline Mode. |
| Terraria | Named as a candidate by the secondary roundup; no primary-source offline confirmation or Windows requirements are established here. | Check its current official listing and any account, activation, or launcher requirements. |
| Hades | Named as a candidate by the secondary roundup; no primary-source offline confirmation or Windows requirements are established here. | Check its current official listing and any account, activation, or launcher requirements. |
| Balatro | Named as a candidate by the secondary roundup; no primary-source offline confirmation or Windows requirements are established here. | Check its current official listing and any account, activation, or launcher requirements. |
| Hollow Knight | Named as a candidate by the secondary roundup; no primary-source offline confirmation or Windows requirements are established here. | Check its current official listing and any account, activation, or launcher requirements. |
| Slay the Spire | Named as a candidate by the secondary roundup; no primary-source offline confirmation or Windows requirements are established here. | Check its current official listing and any account, activation, or launcher requirements. |
| Cuphead | Named as a candidate by the secondary roundup; no primary-source offline confirmation or Windows requirements are established here. | Check its current official listing and any account, activation, or launcher requirements. |
| Sid Meier’s Civilization VI | The roundup flags a one-time online activation requirement; this is a secondary-source note, not independent confirmation. Current Windows requirements are not established here. | Activate and launch the edition you own while connected, then verify it in Offline Mode. Do not assume the first launch will work without internet. |
| Vampire Survivors | Named as a candidate by the secondary roundup; no primary-source offline confirmation or Windows requirements are established here. | Check its current official listing and any account, activation, or launcher requirements. |
| The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt | The roundup says offline behavior may depend on edition; no edition-specific primary-source confirmation or Windows requirements are established here. | Check the exact edition and launcher you plan to use, including whether it needs an account or online check. |
The candidate list is from CloudsPress Team’s 2026 roundup, which names ten games despite its Windows 11 title. Its list is useful for ideas, but it does not substantiate a complete set of twelve verified Windows 10 offline games. The table therefore does not fill two extra slots with unverified recommendations.

How to prepare a Steam game for a trip without internet
- Connect and sign in. Start Steam while online and make sure the account credentials are saved as needed for Offline Mode.
- Update first. Install available Steam client and game updates while you still have a connection.
- Complete setup. Launch each game online and wait until it reaches a playable state. Resolve installation, update, activation, or first-run prompts before disconnecting.
- Switch modes. In Steam, choose Steam > Go Offline.
- Close Steam normally. Shut the client down normally so it retains its offline information.
- Check other dependencies. Confirm whether the game relies on an external launcher or active connection; Steam Offline Mode cannot bypass those requirements.
Steam cautions that a game can still fail to launch offline if Steam or game files need updates, even if the installation appeared ready. Preparation lowers the risk; it is not a universal guarantee. Follow the current Steam Offline Mode instructions for details.
Microsoft Store alternatives
Microsoft’s PC single-player catalog includes free options such as Microsoft Mahjong and Microsoft Solitaire Collection. A single-player catalog label does not establish that a particular game works offline. Check the individual Microsoft Store listing for its current offline status and Windows requirements before downloading or travelling. Microsoft Store: Top free Single player Games on PC.

- Support Plug and Play, only for PC games supporting Xinput mode / PS3

How to choose a candidate
- Confirm offline access first. Look for publisher or storefront details about activation, account checks, launchers, and offline play. A single-player feature label alone is insufficient.
- Check your Windows 10 PC against current requirements. Compare the listed OS, processor, memory, graphics, and storage requirements for the exact edition you plan to install.
- Match the play style to the occasion. Decide whether you want a short-session game or a longer progression-focused one, using the official description rather than assumptions about offline reliability.
- Check the edition and content you own. Edition differences can affect launchers and offline behavior, so verify the specific version rather than relying on a general title-level claim.
Among the candidates, Stardew Valley is the only one for which the available material establishes a Steam single-player listing and specific Windows minimums. That still does not establish reliable offline launch in every setup. For the others, verify current official product information before treating them as travel-ready.
