What Offworld announced in October 2024
In an announcement dated October 9, 2024, developer Offworld Industries said the game would leave Early Access and launch in version 1.0 on October 11, alongside its release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Offworld described the launch as adding a 25-mission S.O.G. mode, three original NPC allies, new enemies, and locations. Read Offworld’s launch announcement.

Offworld’s factsheet credits the company as developer and PC publisher, and Knights Peak Interactive as console publisher. It lists PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S and gives October 11, 2024 as the 1.0 release date. See the official factsheet.
Casper Van Dien’s role as Johnny Rico
Van Dien reprised Johnny Rico, the character he played in the 1997 film. In Extermination, Rico is a general who commands the S.O.G. single-player missions. Xbox Wire also described the campaign at launch as 25 missions starring General Johnny Rico, voiced and played by Van Dien. Xbox Wire’s launch coverage confirms the campaign’s launch framing.

How the game plays
The main experience is an online co-op first-person shooter built around fighting Arachnids and working together to secure territory. The PlayStation Store describes matches for up to 16 players; Offworld’s FAQ says modes accommodate between four and 16 players. Players choose among six classes—Medic, Engineer, Guardian, Demolisher, Ranger, and Sniper—and can rebuild and construct bases. The Galactic Front campaign structure adds companies, shared objectives, and rewards. See the PlayStation Store description.
Offworld’s FAQ lists modes including Assault & Secure, ARC Slam, Horde, four-player Hive Hunt, and S.O.G. solo missions. It notes that mode names may change during development. The FAQ also identifies Unreal Engine 5.3 and controller support. Read Offworld’s FAQ.

Cross-play lets players on those platforms play together, but it does not mean their account progression follows them when switching between PC and console. Offworld states both details in its FAQ.

Offworld says the game’s content is canon to the Starship Troopers universe. Its soundtrack is original and pays homage to the 1997 film; it does not include music from other franchise entries. These are the developer’s descriptions in the official FAQ.

The Collector’s Edition was a time-limited announcement
Offworld announced a physical Collector’s Edition produced and distributed with Limited Run Games. The described contents were a Federation flag, posters, stickers, and a Warrior Bug figure. The announcement gave a preorder period of September 24 through October 27, 2024. That window has passed, and the announcement does not establish current stock or a reissue. Updates after launch
The game has continued to receive development updates. In an August 13, 2026 developer update on Steam, Offworld said Update 12 was being prepared for August, expected Update 13 in October with the Hopper Bug and an expanded building tutorial, and planned Update 14 for mid-December. These were roadmap intentions at the time of that post, not confirmation that each update subsequently shipped. Check the Steam developer news feed.
