One Piece: 6 Duos That Could Beat a Yonko

Manga spoilers through Chapter 1193. There is no canon-confirmed list of two-person teams that can reliably defeat a Yonko. The six pairings below are matchup-based possibilities, not guaranteed wins: their cases rest on demonstrated abilities and the openings two coordinated fighters might create. The analysis is current through the latest chapter listed in VIZ’s official chapter index on September 13, 2026.

What it takes for a duo to beat a Yonko

A Yonko fight is not a simple comparison of attack strength. A team needs a way to affect an exceptionally durable opponent, survive long enough to use it, and coordinate so one fighter’s opening becomes the other’s opportunity. Mobility, battlefield control, defensive coverage, and the specific opponent’s abilities all matter.

The Onigashima battle is a useful example of the difference between teamwork and a clean two-on-one victory. VIZ describes Luffy, Law, and Kid facing Kaido and Big Mom; that is a group confrontation, not proof that any two characters independently beat one Yonko. The official One Piece, Vol. 100 listing supplies that context, but does not confirm the hypothetical pairings below.

Six duos with a plausible Yonko-winning case

These pairings are best read as reasoned speculation. “Strongest matchup” identifies where a team’s demonstrated tools seem most relevant; it does not establish a canon result or a universal ranking among Yonko.

1. Luffy and Zoro

Why the pairing works: Luffy can pressure a Yonko with overwhelming offense and the ability to keep fighting through punishing exchanges. Zoro adds formidable close-range damage and can threaten an opponent while Luffy draws attention or creates an opening. They have fought alongside one another for years, making their coordination more credible than a team assembled only on paper.

Best case: Kaido. Zoro has demonstrated that his attacks can wound Kaido, while Luffy has repeatedly engaged him directly. Together, they could alternate pressure and exploit a moment when Kaido commits to one attacker.

Limitation: Wounding Kaido is not the same as defeating him. Both fighters must stay within striking range, and a prolonged exchange against a Yonko leaves little room for error. This is a plausible win, not a likely outcome established by canon.

2. Law and Kid

Why the pairing works: Law’s spatial abilities offer ways to reposition allies and interfere with an opponent’s control of the battlefield; Kid’s magnetic powers let him bring heavy force to bear. Their differing approaches could make it harder for a Yonko to focus on one threat.

Best case: Big Mom. The two fought her together at Onigashima, using attacks and tactical pressure to create a route to victory. That makes this the most directly grounded matchup among the six, though their canon fight was a joint battle rather than evidence of a dependable formula for every Yonko.

Limitation: Their success depended on sustained teamwork and the conditions of that fight. It should not be recast as proof either could win alone, nor does it establish the same odds against Shanks, Blackbeard, or Kaido.

3. Luffy and Law

Why the pairing works: Luffy supplies relentless direct pressure, while Law can change positions and attack in ways that bypass ordinary lines of defense. Law’s support can create the split-second openings a heavy hitter needs; Luffy can keep the opponent occupied while Law looks for a tactical angle.

Best case: Kaido. Both have fought him at Onigashima, and their distinct styles offer more than simply doubling up on the same kind of attack.

Limitation: Their shared participation in a larger battle does not settle how a two-person fight would go. Law’s abilities have limits, and a Yonko who prevents him from setting up or forces Luffy into a long exchange could blunt the partnership. This is a plausible upset rather than a sure win.

4. Luffy and Kid

Why the pairing works: Both favor aggressive, high-impact combat, so they can keep a Yonko under pressure from different angles. Kid’s magnetic control and large-scale attacks add a battlefield dimension to Luffy’s close pursuit, potentially limiting an opponent’s freedom to disengage.

Best case: Big Mom, against whom both took part in the Onigashima conflict. Their combined pressure is more persuasive against her in that specific context than as a general claim that they can beat any Yonko.

Limitation: Their styles can be forceful without being perfectly coordinated. The established group battle does not show this exact pair winning a clean two-on-one, and a patient opponent could exploit openings created by their direct approach.

5. Shanks and Ben Beckman

Why the pairing works: Shanks is a Yonko himself, so the question is whether a second high-level combatant could make his side overwhelming. Beckman’s role as his trusted first mate makes him a natural partner, while the crew’s reputation suggests disciplined coordination.

Best case: A matchup against another Yonko where two attackers can exploit divided attention. The case is strongest as a team built around Shanks’s threat and Beckman’s support, not as a claim that their specific two-person victory is shown in canon.

Limitation: The available official material does not establish Beckman’s full combat ceiling or demonstrate this duo defeating a Yonko together. This is one of the more speculative entries, and it should not be treated as evidence that Shanks is objectively stronger than another Yonko.

6. Blackbeard and Shiryu

Why the pairing works: Blackbeard’s unusual powers can disrupt an opponent’s options, while Shiryu’s invisibility offers a potential route to surprise attacks. If Blackbeard draws a Yonko’s attention, an unseen ally could threaten from an unexpected direction.

Best case: An opponent vulnerable to disrupted abilities or ambush tactics. This is a matchup-specific theory about how their roles might combine, not a confirmed answer to how they fare against any named Yonko.

Limitation: The premise relies on Shiryu successfully creating and exploiting an opening against an opponent with exceptional combat ability. Canon has not established this exact duo’s win over a Yonko, and the available evidence does not support assigning them a reliable outcome against Shanks, Kaido, or Big Mom.

How to read these matchups

  • Closest to a demonstrated Yonko team fight: Law and Kid against Big Mom, while remembering that the canon confrontation involved a broader battle context.
  • Strongest direct-damage cases: Luffy with Zoro, Law, or Kid; each pairing combines pressure with a distinct supporting role, but none is a guaranteed victory.
  • Most dependent on extrapolation: Shanks with Beckman and Blackbeard with Shiryu, since the cited official material does not establish either duo’s completed Yonko victory.

There is no verified statistic or official ranking that turns these arguments into win percentages. A different opponent, battlefield, or fight length could change the result; “can beat” here means a defensible possibility, not a canon prediction.
