If a OneStream Live video upload fails, first check which feature you are uploading to: ordinary video uploads support MP4, MOV, and M4V, while Live Studio clips support MP4, MOV, and WebM. Then check the applicable size limit, confirm the file plays correctly, and verify its codecs. For a general upload, OneStream recommends MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio.
Check the format and limit for your upload type
OneStream publishes different requirements for general video uploads and Live Studio clips. An extension supported in one feature is not necessarily listed for the other.

Identify the upload surface
Check whether you are adding a general video or a clip inside Live Studio. Use that feature’s format and size guidance above. If you are using a general upload and the file exceeds the 10 GB direct-upload limit, use a cloud-storage upload route; OneStream does not state a size limit for that route.

Confirm the transfer and processing finished
Make sure the upload reached completion and OneStream finished processing it before you schedule or test the stream. If processing appears stuck for an extended period, OneStream’s troubleshooting guidance suggests trying a fresh upload.

Check the actual encoding
A filename ending in .mp4 does not confirm that the video and audio use supported codecs. For a general upload, export an MP4 using H.264 (AVC) video and AAC audio, at a constant 30 FPS. Variable frame rates, unsupported codecs, or damaged media can cause processing or playback problems.

Play the file locally
Watch and listen to the source from beginning to end, paying attention to freezes, damaged frames, interruptions, or missing audio. If it fails locally, export or render a new copy before uploading again.

Retry with a clean copy
If the upload is incomplete or its processing failed, remove the failed item if appropriate, upload a fresh copy, wait for processing to finish, and test the stream before the scheduled event. Avoid closing the page or disrupting the connection during transfer.

Check the schedule and destination
If the media uploaded but the pre-recorded stream does not start, verify the scheduled date and time and confirm the event has not expired. Check that the destination is connected and its authentication, permissions, stream key, and settings are current; reconnect the destination if needed.

Stabilize the connection
Network interruptions can break an upload or affect a scheduled stream. Make sure the connection has sufficient upload bandwidth; where possible, use a stable wired connection. A wired connection can help with connectivity symptoms, but it will not fix a corrupt file or incompatible codec.

If upload succeeds but playback fails
Confirm the source contains both audio and video and inspect its codecs. Refresh the player, test another browser or device, and check whether the destination platform is experiencing a playback issue.
OneStream’s pre-recorded live-stream troubleshooting guidance covers file playback, processing, schedule, destination connection, and network checks. It does not establish that any single fix is guaranteed.

Convert an unsupported or unreliable file
OneStream advises importing and rendering the video in editing software or using an online converter. Its guidance names HandBrake as a free software example. For a general video upload, target an MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio, then check that the exported file plays correctly before uploading. Conversion cannot repair missing source footage or audio; if the source itself is faulty, use a sound original or export a new recording.
For the full general-upload target, use 30 FPS, 1920 × 1080, video bitrate of 1500–6000 Kbps, and audio bitrate of 128 Kbps. Do not apply the general-upload format list or its size guidance to Studio clips; those have their own published requirements.
