What Opera and MSI actually launched
Opera described the product as the Opera GX MSI Edition, a special co-branded version or distribution of Opera GX. Opera GX remains the underlying gaming-focused browser. The announcement also described a separate MSI Mod for people who already use standard Opera GX.

These features can make a browser match an MSI-themed desktop setup more closely than a conventional static color scheme. They can also be distracting or undesirable if you prefer a quiet, minimal new-tab page. Whether a current build lets you disable each animation, sound and music element independently should be checked in the live settings rather than assumed from the 2024 announcement.
How Lucky the Dragon works
Opera presented Lucky as an interactive element inside the Live Wallpaper. The announced progression is:

Opera did not publish tested completion times, detailed mechanics, system requirements, save-file behavior or confirmation that every unlock remains available in current versions. Treat the feature as a lightweight browser-based interactive experience, not as a full game, esports function or hardware integration.
Does the MSI Edition improve gaming performance?
There is no documented MSI-specific FPS or latency benefit. The announcement lists Opera GX’s existing CPU limiter, RAM limiter, network-bandwidth limiter, Hot Tabs Killer and GX Cleaner. Those controls can help you limit browser activity while a game is running, but they cannot guarantee higher frame rates or lower ping.

The practical distinction is simple: the MSI collaboration changes the browser’s presentation and content, while the resource controls come from Opera GX generally. Any benefit depends on the game, open tabs, extensions, hardware, operating system and network conditions. A measured performance claim would require testing those conditions; the launch material does not provide such a test.
Is MSI hardware required?
The announcement does not identify an MSI motherboard, laptop, graphics card, monitor or peripheral as a prerequisite. It specifically described an MSI-themed browser experience and an MSI Mod for existing Opera GX users. That means MSI ownership was not stated as necessary at launch.

Compatibility can change. Before installing in 2026, check the current Opera installer or official mod listing for supported operating systems, required Opera GX versions and any newly introduced restrictions. The collaboration does not document MSI Center integration, RGB synchronization, device detection or extra features unlocked by MSI hardware.

- Open the official Opera GX page and confirm whether an MSI Edition or MSI Mod is currently listed.
- If a full edition is offered, note the installer name, version, operating-system support and whether it installs beside an existing Opera GX profile.
- If you already use Opera GX, open the current customization or mod controls and search the official Opera GX Store for the MSI Mod.
- Verify the publisher identity, last-update date, required browser version and whether Lucky, wallpapers and sounds are still included.
- Apply the mod, then check wallpaper, animation, music and sound controls. Confirm whether the theme changes appearance only or also changes browser behavior.
- If neither route is available, use standard Opera GX customization instead. Do not use unofficial “MSI Edition” installers or repackaged downloads.
Before changing editions or profiles, confirm how bookmarks, passwords, extensions and settings are handled. The 2024 release does not specify profile migration, uninstall behavior, backup requirements or whether Lucky’s progress is stored locally, in an account or reset when the mod is removed.

In 2026, verify that the official edition or MSI Mod is still available and maintained before switching.
