Out-of-Warranty Switch 2 Repairs Cost More Than Original Switch Repairs in Japan

Nintendo Japan’s tax-inclusive reference prices put Switch 2 CPU-board and LCD repairs above comparable original HAC-001 Switch repairs—but the figures are not universal quotes.

In Nintendo Japan’s published, tax-inclusive reference prices, two like-for-like categories cost more to repair on the Nintendo Switch 2 (BEE-001) than on the original Nintendo Switch (HAC-001): a CPU-board repair is ¥27,500 versus ¥14,300, and an LCD-unit repair is ¥15,400 versus ¥9,900. Those differences are about 92% and 55%, respectively, calculated from Nintendo’s listed prices. They are Japanese reference amounts, not guaranteed final bills or prices for other regions.

How much does it cost to repair a Nintendo Switch 2?

Nintendo Japan lists several reference prices for out-of-warranty Switch 2 repairs. For the console, the published categories include CPU-board repair at ¥27,500, LCD-unit repair at ¥15,400, and a category covering examples such as game-card-slot damage, USB Type-C trouble, or battery replacement at ¥9,900. A separate category covering examples such as audio-jack, SD-card-reading, or speaker issues is ¥7,150. These are tax-inclusive yen prices in Nintendo Japan’s Switch 2 repair-price table.

Nintendo calls these amounts reference prices. The final charge can change if the suggested repair does not resolve the fault or additional parts are required. Water damage, drops, and modifications may affect multiple components and can cost more than a listed amount; see Nintendo’s repair-price caveats.

Are Switch 2 repairs more expensive than original Switch repairs?

For the comparable categories below, Nintendo Japan’s listed Switch 2 reference prices are higher than those for the original HAC-001 Nintendo Switch. The percentages are arithmetic comparisons of Nintendo’s figures, not statistics published by Nintendo.

Repair category Switch 2 BEE-001 Original Switch HAC-001 Difference
CPU board ¥27,500 ¥14,300 About 92% higher
LCD unit ¥15,400 ¥9,900 About 55% higher
Other components / grouped issues ¥9,900 for a category including game-card-slot, USB Type-C, and battery issues ¥6,050 for components outside the CPU board, LCD unit, and stand About 64% higher, but the category definitions are not perfectly equivalent

The figures are from Nintendo Japan’s separate Switch 2 and Switch-family repair tables. The third row is only a broad comparison: the categories do not describe precisely the same set of repairs. Nintendo also lists the original Switch OLED and Switch Lite separately, so a comparison with either model should identify it by name rather than treating every original Switch as HAC-001.

Do these prices apply outside Japan?

No. The yen figures above are Nintendo Japan reference prices and should not be treated as a quote for a console serviced elsewhere.

United Kingdom

Nintendo UK’s published PDF lists maximum out-of-warranty prices, including tax, of £120 for a Nintendo Switch console, £190.50 for a Nintendo Switch OLED console, and £108 for Switch Lite. The PDF says those maximums apply when an item is swapped for a replacement or remanufactured product; the final cost may be lower depending on the fault. Its displayed table does not list a Switch 2 price, so it does not establish a UK Switch 2 repair cost or support a UK comparison between Switch 2 and the original console. See Nintendo UK’s service-price PDF.

United States and Canada

Nintendo of America directs US and Canadian customers to its service-request process for available options and pricing for Switch 2 and Switch-family products. The official material reviewed does not provide an itemized public Switch 2 price schedule like Japan’s. Nintendo says systems carry a standard one-year warranty, physical damage is not covered, and warranty status is determined during the service process. Start with Nintendo’s service information for a case-specific estimate. Its Factory Service Terms & Conditions also say out-of-warranty service may be available for a fee; Nintendo may repair or replace the product at its discretion, including with refurbished parts or products.

What to check before repairing or replacing a Switch 2

  1. Confirm the exact model and fault. Identify whether the console is Switch 2 BEE-001, original Switch HAC-001, OLED, or Lite, and describe the problem as specifically as possible. Repair categories and prices differ by model.
  2. Check warranty status. In the US and Canada, Nintendo determines warranty status through its service process; physical damage is not covered under its warranty. For other regions, check the applicable local terms.
  3. Get the actual regional estimate. Use Nintendo’s service channel for your country rather than applying Japan’s reference prices or a UK maximum to a different region. Ask whether the estimate could change after inspection.
  4. Check for other charges. Confirm whether shipping or any other costs apply, since they can affect the total amount you pay.
  5. Compare with a current local replacement price. Weigh the confirmed repair estimate against the price of a replacement console in your market. A higher reference price alone does not show that replacement is the better choice; the fault, final quote, and local console price matter.
