Outlast: Bundle of Terror is a Nintendo Switch horror package with both the original Outlast and its Whistleblower expansion. The package contains the original Outlast and Whistleblower. In the main game, journalist Miles Upshur investigates Mount Massive Asylum. The expansion follows Waylon Park, a software engineer whose actions connect to the asylum’s outbreak. Its story begins before the original game and continues beyond its events, making it more than a separate retelling.

Nintendo lists the Switch release date as February 27, 2018. Its UK product listing identifies the game as single-player and supports handheld, tabletop, and TV play; availability and offer details can differ by region. Nintendo UK’s product page has the regional listing.

Nintendo Life’s Switch review
Nintendo Life’s European-version review, published March 3, 2018, gave the game an 8/10. Jon Mundy highlighted its atmosphere, sound, and the value of having Whistleblower included. The review also noted that repeated chases and hiding can make the gameplay feel repetitive. The page separately displays a 7.7 site rating; that is distinct from the review’s 8/10 score. Nintendo Life says Red Barrels provided its review copy.

How to read the wider score picture
A Metacritic search-result snapshot accessed in 2026 showed a 77 Metascore from 14 critic reviews and labeled the aggregate “Generally Favorable.” The page was not independently checked, so treat that as a dated snapshot rather than a current verified score. How does the gameplay work?
Outlast is built around evasion rather than combat. Nintendo’s product description puts the constraint plainly: “You are no fighter – if you want to survive the horrors of the asylum, your only chance is to run…or hide.” Players move through the asylum, avoid threats, and use the camcorder’s night vision to see in the dark. Its limited battery makes illumination a resource to manage, adding pressure to exploration and pursuit.

That vulnerability is central to the game’s tension, but it also explains the main review reservation: escaping, hiding, and repeating the cycle can become familiar over time. Players looking for combat-heavy action or varied encounter systems may find the loop narrow; those who enjoy being hunted and navigating hostile spaces may find it effective.
How does the Switch version perform?
Nintendo Life reported 720p resolution in handheld mode, 1008p docked, and 30fps in both modes for the Switch version it reviewed in 2018. These are figures from that review, not fresh measurements, so they should not be read as a new performance test. The review’s positive assessment of atmosphere and audiovisual presentation suggests the port’s appeal is its ability to deliver the horror experience in portable and TV modes, rather than a higher frame-rate target.

Is Outlast: Bundle of Terror scary, and what is its rating?
It is a graphic survival-horror game focused on pursuit, hiding, and disturbing scenes. The US ESRB listing rates the Switch game M for Mature 17+ for Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Nudity, Sexual Content, and Strong Language. Nintendo UK lists PEGI 18. Ratings are region-specific; check the rating on the edition available in your country.
