It ended on March 25, 2024. Four themed Legendary skins were sold in the shop, while players could earn a Legendary Wrecking Ball skin based on Ein through event challenges.
Which Overwatch heroes became Cowboy Bebop characters?
The collaboration paired four heroes with familiar faces from the anime. The four character skins were shop cosmetics; Ein was a separate event-challenge reward.

The pairings and acquisition routes were reported by Xbox Wire on March 12, 2024; Blizzard’s official event page also described Ein as an earnable challenge reward.
What did the crossover add?
It was a cosmetics-focused collaboration: character skins, anime-inspired visual details, and event challenges with rewards. The available official coverage does not announce a new hero, map, or standalone game mode, so the crossover should not be read as a change to core gameplay.

How did the skins reference the anime?
Overwatch concept artists Danna Lee and Allison Yu described how they adapted recognizable Cowboy Bebop elements to the game’s character designs in the Xbox Wire interview.
Spike Cassidy
Lee said Spike’s outfit drew on the anime, while his gadgets were designed to suggest retro anime technology. Cassidy’s weapon took inspiration from the Swordfish 2, and the skin included Andy Von De Oniyate’s hat and a key to the Swordfish 2. Lee described the challenge as balancing the source character with the game’s visual style: “It was challenging to strike a balance between maintaining Spike’s essence and infusing Overwatch’s style.”

Faye Ashe
Ashe’s B.O.B. was reworked to evoke Faye’s ship, the Red Tail. Yu said the team made B.O.B. rounder and more organic and removed his clothes to bring the silhouette closer to the ship. The design also included objects associated with particular anime episodes. These are visual references, not gameplay effects.

The original event ran through March 25, 2024, according to Xbox Wire’s event report and the Blizzard event page. The sources do not establish whether any of the skins have returned to the shop since then, or whether they will return. They also do not provide a verified price, so availability and cost should be checked in-game rather than assumed from the original event.
