The October 6, 2026 Overwatch retail update moves Sombra from Damage to Support, removes Hack as an ability, and gives her new healing and debuff tools. Roadhog gains Trash Compactor, a projectile-absorbing counterattack, alongside changes to his Scrap Gun, Chain Hook, and Take a Breather. The figures below are Blizzard’s published patch-note values; later hotfixes may change them.
What the October 6 Overwatch update changes
Blizzard’s October 6, 2026 retail patch notes detail the reworks introduced as part of Reign of Talon Season 5. The season announcement provides a shorter overview. The patch notes are the source for the ability and weapon values below; they are not independent tests of match impact.

Sombra is now a Support hero
Sombra moves from the Damage role and Recon subrole to Support and Tactician. Hack is removed as an ability. Instead of locking opponents out of their abilities, she can heal allies and weaken enemies through two new abilities.
Hotfix heals allies and hacks objects
- Ally healing: Hotfix restores 65 health instantly, then 25 health per second, for up to 175 total healing or 12 seconds.
- Charges and use: It has two charges, an eight-second cooldown, a 17-meter range, and a 0.5-second cast time.
- Object hacking: Sombra can hack health packs and most enemy deployables without spending a Hotfix charge. This has a separate six-second cooldown, and damage can interrupt the hack.
- Stealth: Hotfix can be used while Sombra is stealthed without immediately breaking stealth, but it temporarily reveals her.
Cyberspace heals allies and applies Weaken
Cyberspace launches a projectile that creates a zone lasting three seconds with a five-meter radius. Its initial explosion deals 40 damage to enemies and heals allies for 40. While the zone remains, it deals 25 damage per second to enemies and heals allies for 30 per second. Enemies inside receive Weaken, which halves their damage and healing output.

Blizzard says the rework is meant to preserve Sombra’s disruptive identity without the frustrating ability lockout opponents experienced with Hack. Weaken reduces enemies’ effectiveness without stopping them from using their abilities.

Trash Compactor replaces secondary fire
Roadhog’s new Trash Compactor replaces Scrap Gun secondary fire. For two seconds, it absorbs projectiles in front of him, then fires an explosive projectile whose damage scales from 75 to 200 according to absorbed damage. Blizzard lists a 30% conversion rate, a 15% movement-speed penalty while the ability is active, and a cooldown of 10 seconds in 5v5 or 11 seconds in 6v6. The explosion deals 10 impact damage, with a two-meter inner radius and a six-meter outer radius.

Blizzard describes the ability as both defensive and offensive: Roadhog can absorb incoming projectiles and turn the accumulated damage into a counterattack. That is the stated design intent, not a measured result in matches.
Scrap Gun primary fire has more ammunition and a new damage profile
The primary fire now shoots two bursts per volley and holds 12 ammo, up from six. Blizzard lists total damage per volley at 204, up from 175, while changing several parts of the shot:

- Critical damage multiplier: 1.5×, down from 2×.
- Pellets per volley: 16, down from 25; pellet damage: 4.25, down from 7.
- A 34-damage center projectile is added.
- Spread narrows from 8 to 6 degrees.
- Damage falloff range shortens from 30–50 to 20–35 meters.
- Projectile speed increases from 80 to 100 meters per second.
Chain Hook and Take a Breather also change
Chain Hook’s stun after pulling a target is reduced from 0.4 to 0.3 seconds, and the pulled target ends up 4.5 meters away instead of 3. Its cooldown falls from seven to six seconds in 5v5 and from eight to seven seconds in 6v6.
Take a Breather’s maximum duration falls from three seconds to two. Healing rises from 150 to 200 per second, damage reduction falls from 40% to 35%, and its cooldown increases from 1.25 to two seconds.

Blizzard says the Roadhog rework aims to reduce frustration from Chain Hook’s lethality and give him a way to help his team in a more traditional Tank role. The published notes explain the intended changes but do not establish a player-outcome statistic or overall effectiveness for either rework.
