For a YouTube stream, Ant Media Server is the more directly documented self-hosted relay: its version 3.1 guide explains how to forward an Ant Media live stream to YouTube. Owncast is designed as a self-hosted live-video and chat destination that accepts an RTMP broadcast; the Owncast documentation reviewed here does not establish built-in YouTube forwarding. If your priority is keeping uploaded video live on YouTube without maintaining a server or computer, StreamNeo is the cloud option to try first.
What each product does in a YouTube setup
| Option | Documented role | Fit for YouTube output |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Cloud service that loops uploaded video or a playlist to a YouTube channel. | Made for keeping an uploaded-video stream live from the cloud; no home computer needs to stay on. |
| Owncast | Self-hosted live-video and chat destination. A broadcaster sends video to its server over RTMP. | The Owncast documentation reviewed describes RTMP ingest to Owncast, not native forwarding from Owncast to YouTube. |
| Ant Media Server | Streaming server that can restream an existing Ant Media live stream to a destination. | Its version 3.1 documentation explicitly describes forwarding a stream to YouTube using a YouTube URL and stream key. |
This is a workflow comparison based on official documentation, not a hands-on test or reliability audit. Ant Media’s cited instructions are for version 3.1; confirm the workflow and licensing for the edition and version you plan to deploy. The absence of a documented Owncast-to-YouTube workflow in the sources reviewed is not proof that no external plugin or relay can be used.
Which should you choose?
Choose StreamNeo if you want uploaded video to stay live on YouTube
StreamNeo is the simplest fit among these options for a YouTube-only, always-on broadcast built from uploaded videos: it loops recordings or a playlist from the cloud, with any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. It does not stream from a camera or to other platforms.
Choose Ant Media Server if you want to operate a server-side YouTube relay
Ant Media is the closer self-managed fit when you already have a live input and want a documented server-side route to YouTube. You still have to operate the server, provide sufficient infrastructure, manage credentials, and verify the deployed edition supports your intended configuration.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose Owncast if your main goal is your own live page and chat
Owncast is aimed at operators who want an independent, self-hosted viewer destination with control over the page, moderation, and audience. If YouTube is also required, plan an additional output path: for example, a broadcaster or relay configured to send to both destinations. Verify that the chosen software and server can sustain both outputs; the reviewed Owncast documentation does not establish native YouTube forwarding.
How the documented workflows differ
Owncast: send an RTMP broadcast to your server
- Install and prepare the server. Owncast’s manual installation documentation describes port 8080 for the web interface and TCP port 1935 for RTMP ingest. Configure the host and required network access for your deployment.
- Secure the installation. Change the documented default admin and stream credentials immediately after setup. Configure the process as a system service if you need it to run in the background and start with the server.
- Configure your broadcaster. In broadcasting software, use the Owncast server’s RTMP address and stream key. The default ingest endpoint is
/live; Owncast accepts RTMP over TCP port 1935 by default. Check the server’s actual address and credentials rather than copying a generic example. - Match the stream to the server. Owncast cautions that the broadcast quality must be within what the server can handle. Higher conversion demand uses more resources, so test with your actual settings and workload before relying on the installation.
Owncast’s project describes the software as open source and self-hosted, with broadcaster software using RTMP generally compatible; its README names OBS and Streamlabs among software used with Owncast. Those facts establish an ingest-to-Owncast workflow, not an Owncast-to-YouTube relay.

Ant Media Server: forward an existing stream to YouTube
- Check YouTube eligibility and create the stream. YouTube’s encoder setup help says the channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or select the live stream and retrieve its stream URL and key. Check current eligibility and session details in Studio before a scheduled launch.
- Confirm that the input includes audio. Ant Media’s version 3.1 guide says YouTube does not accept streams without audio. Ensure the live stream you intend to forward has an audio track.
- Add YouTube as the destination in Ant Media. Follow the version 3.1 [RTMP restreaming guide](https://docs.antmedia.io/guides/publish-live-stream/restreaming/rtmp-restreaming/) to add the YouTube endpoint and key through the Ant Media dashboard or REST API.
- Validate before depending on it. Confirm that YouTube receives the stream and audio, and test the credentials and reconnect behavior in the exact Ant Media edition and deployment you will use. The guide documents the forwarding workflow; it does not establish uninterrupted 24/7 operation.
For encrypted ingest, YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP carried over TLS/SSL and instructs creators to obtain the RTMPS URL and stream key in the Live Control Room. Use the destination URL and key shown for your stream: do not assume a generic endpoint is interchangeable. See [YouTube’s RTMPS instructions](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/10364924?hl=en).
What continuous streaming requires beyond the software
Hosting, network, and operations
With either self-hosted option, you are responsible for the server, network, startup and restart behavior, credentials, and capacity. Owncast’s installation instructions cover ports and running the process as a background service; that is a setup detail, not a promise that a particular host will be reliable. Ant Media says capacity depends on infrastructure resources, configuration, and scaling architecture. Size and test for your workload rather than assuming a given server supports a particular audience or stream quality.

Both YouTube and an independent destination
If viewers need both YouTube and an Owncast page, decide where the fan-out happens: the broadcaster may send separate outputs, or a relay may forward the input to both destinations. The source encoder and hosting must sustain the added output demand. Check audio, credentials, destination configuration, and recovery behavior for each path. The reviewed documentation does not establish a tested Owncast-plus-Ant-Media topology or a ready-made dual-destination design.
Stream sessions, archives, and DVR
Continuous delivery does not guarantee a complete YouTube replay. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Its DVR help also says rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. If preserving the whole program matters, keep a local recording rather than relying on YouTube’s archive or rewind. See [YouTube’s archive guidance](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6247592?hl=en) and [DVR guidance](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/9296823?hl=en).

Rights and stream eligibility
YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have the necessary worldwide rights for live and archived content, including relevant music rights, and to follow applicable rules. A stream being technically valid does not make its music or video rights valid. Review the [livestream terms](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/9961934?hl=en) for your intended content and confirm current channel eligibility using [YouTube’s encoder setup help](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2907883?hl=en-EN).

Owncast
Owncast is described by its project as open source, but self-hosting is not cost-free: you supply or rent infrastructure and handle setup and ongoing operations. The project’s manual lists x86_64 and ARM64 among supported release architectures; that does not establish that a particular machine is sufficient for your stream or audience.

Ant Media Server
Ant Media offers cloud and self-hosted routes. Its pricing page states that cloud marketplace charges cover the server license, while compute, storage, and bandwidth are billed separately by the cloud provider. Total cost therefore depends on the license, host, and workload. Check current licensing and provider charges for your deployment rather than treating the server license as the complete hosting cost. See [Ant Media’s pricing and FAQ](https://antmedia.io/pricing/).
StreamNeo
StreamNeo has one flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps; the same product is included regardless of billing length. Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB of storage pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and StreamNeo team support. Billing options are:
- Daily: $0.99 per day
- Weekly: $2.99 per week
- Monthly: $9.99 per month
- 6 months: $49.99 for 6 months
- Yearly: $89.99 a year
The first day is free with no card, once per account. Billing can be cancelled any time; UPI and cards are available in India, with card checkout worldwide. For five or more slots, contact support. See [StreamNeo](https://streamneo.com) for service details.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is uploaded video playing continuously on YouTube, StreamNeo avoids operating an always-on home computer or self-managed server. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running with your computer off; the uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and automatic recovery is available if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. It streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed. Start your free StreamNeo day.
Quick Recap
Troubleshooting a YouTube relay or always-on stream
- YouTube does not receive the Ant Media stream: check the URL and key from the correct YouTube Studio live stream, confirm the configured destination in Ant Media, and verify the stream session is active.
- YouTube receives video but no audio: inspect the source feed and ensure it contains audio; Ant Media’s version 3.1 instructions say YouTube does not accept streams without audio.
- Owncast does not receive the broadcast: verify the RTMP address, stream key,
/liveendpoint, and reachability of TCP port 1935 on the Owncast host. - Owncast strains under the stream workload: reduce conversion demand or use infrastructure suited to the actual quality and workload; Owncast warns that higher conversion demand uses more resources.
- The replay is missing or rewind is unavailable: check stream duration. YouTube says a stream over 12 hours may not be captured at all and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours; use a local recording when a complete copy matters.
- A long stream stops or fails to resume: neither product’s reviewed documentation proves uninterrupted 24/7 operation. Treat recovery as an operational requirement: monitor the output, secure credentials, and prepare a restart or failover plan before depending on the broadcast.
