What is the game called, and when did it come out?
Shadow Labyrinth was announced by Bandai Namco on December 13, 2024, as a new game drawing on the PAC-MAN ideas featured in Secret Level. Bandai Namco set its release date for July 18, 2025, and its official product page now marks the game available.

Is Shadow Labyrinth a direct adaptation or sequel to Secret Level?
Not in a one-to-one sense. The game is a reinterpretation of PAC-MAN’s core ideas and part of a broader connected setting; it is not presented as a literal recreation of the episode’s plot.

In Bandai Namco’s July 18, 2026 anniversary Q&A, Hisaharu Tago described Circle—the setting associated with the Secret Level episode—as one branch of the UGSF multiverse. He also characterized Shadow Labyrinth as a story formed through the interference and integration of elements from parallel worlds. That framing connects the two without establishing that the game simply continues the episode’s story.
Who do you play, and what does PAC-MAN have to do with it?
You play as Swordsman No. 8, awakened on a mysterious planet by PUCK, a yellow orb that guides him. Bandai Namco says the world contains relics of war, and the journey involves exploring a maze-like alien landscape, fighting creatures, consuming enemies, developing abilities, and uncovering PUCK’s purpose.

PUCK is not PAC-MAN himself. In the anniversary Q&A, Toru Takahashi said, “In the game’s lore, the character appearing in Shadow Labyrinth is not PAC-MAN himself, but an entity called ‘PUCK.’” The connection is instead in the concepts: Takahashi said the project began with a fresh look at PAC-MAN’s maze, dots, ghosts, and Power Pellet, then expanded into an exploration-based action game drawing on Namco’s wider arcade worlds.
Is it a good fit for someone who likes PAC-MAN?
That depends on what you want from PAC-MAN. Shadow Labyrinth uses maze exploration and ideas associated with the arcade original, but its format is a darker sci-fi action-platformer—not a classic score-focused maze chase. It may appeal to players interested in exploration, combat, and a connected Namco universe; those seeking the original’s familiar chase-and-evade rhythm should expect a substantially different kind of game.

Bandai Namco’s Collector’s Edition listing describes physical copies for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, while the Steam version is a code on a card.
