The San Diego Padres signed right-handed pitcher Roel Ramírez to a minor-league contract on October 1, 2026, and the El Paso Chihuahuas listed him as assigned to the club the next day. The move places him in the Padres’ minor-league system; it is not a major-league call-up.
What happened
The Padres’ transaction page records Ramírez’s signing as a free agent on October 1, 2026, on a minor-league contract (Padres transactions). The Chihuahuas’ transaction listing records his assignment to El Paso on October 2 (El Paso transactions).
The available transaction listings do not disclose salary, guarantees, options, or other contract terms. They also do not explain a longer-term role or plan for Ramírez.
Ramírez’s reported 2026 season
CBS Sports, in a report attributed to RotoWire, says Ramírez pitched for the Toros de Tijuana in 2026, posting a 1.76 ERA with 63 strikeouts and 9 walks over 46 innings (CBS Sports). Those figures are the report’s account of his Mexican League season, not a Padres or MLB transaction statistic.

MLB lists Ramírez as a right-handed pitcher born May 26, 1995, in Laredo, Texas. The Tampa Bay Rays selected him in the eighth round, 248th overall, of the 2013 draft, and he made his major-league debut on August 16, 2020 (MLB biography).
His MLB experience is a small sample
MLB’s profile lists two regular-season appearances and one inning pitched in the majors (MLB player profile). That limited major-league record should not be confused with his broader minor-league and Mexican League career.
