Palworld is not simply Pokémon with guns: it makes creature collecting part of a survival-and-crafting game, where Pals can fight and work in your base. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet also offer open-world exploration and creature collecting, but Nintendo’s description centers on exploring Paldea, choosing story paths, and activities with Pokémon. This comparison uses Scarlet and Violet as its Pokémon example—not as a stand-in for every Pokémon game.
How the core gameplay loops differ
Palworld: survive, craft, and build with Pals
Palworld combines capturing creatures with combat, survival, crafting, base building, and production. Pocketpair describes weakening and capturing Pals with Pal Spheres, then using them as combat allies or assigning them work. Its Steam listing also presents farming, building, and multiplayer as part of the game. Pocketpair’s official Palworld page and the Steam listing establish survival and crafting as central parts of the game’s framing, rather than optional extras around a conventional creature-collecting adventure.
Scarlet and Violet: explore Paldea and follow story paths
Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet are open-world adventures set in Paldea. Nintendo highlights catching wild Pokémon, exploring at your own pace, choosing among three story paths, gathering items, and using Auto Battles. Those are the features described in Nintendo’s Scarlet and Violet guide; they should not be taken as a complete description of every Pokémon game.
What collected creatures do
In Palworld, a captured Pal can be more than a battle companion: Pocketpair says Pals can be assigned to work at bases, farms, and factories. Creature collection therefore feeds into the game’s production and base-building systems as well as combat. Pocketpair’s current game page claims there are “200+ distinct Pals”; that is the developer’s stated count, and the page does not give a publication year.

Nintendo’s Scarlet and Violet guide describes Pokémon as creatures to catch and use while exploring, including in Auto Battles, and notes item gathering as an activity. It does not describe Pokémon serving as base workers or production partners, so the clearest documented contrast is that Palworld gives creatures an explicit work role in addition to combat.
How exploration and progression fit together
Both games have open-world exploration, but it supports different systems. In Scarlet and Violet, players explore Paldea and can choose among three story paths. In Palworld, exploration connects to survival, resource gathering, crafting, building, and the use of Pals. If you want a world primarily framed around a Pokémon adventure and its story paths, Scarlet and Violet fit that description; if you want exploration tied to gathering materials and developing a working base, Palworld’s official descriptions put those systems at the center.

| Game | Multiplayer described by its official source | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Pokémon Scarlet and Violet | Up to four players can connect locally or online. | Nintendo notes that online play requires an account and subscription; see its guide for details. |
| Palworld | The Steam listing describes online co-op for up to four players and dedicated servers for up to 32. | The 32-player figure is for dedicated servers, and server and platform setup can affect availability; consult the Steam listing. |
These figures describe different modes: Palworld’s larger stated capacity applies to dedicated servers, not its four-player co-op mode.

Which game is the better fit?
- Choose Palworld if you want creature collecting intertwined with survival, crafting, base construction, and assigning creatures to work.
- Choose Scarlet or Violet if you want an open-world Pokémon adventure organized around exploring Paldea, choosing story paths, catching Pokémon, and related activities such as Auto Battles.
- Do not treat them as interchangeable if survival systems are a deal-breaker: Palworld’s Steam description presents survival and crafting as core features, while Nintendo’s Scarlet and Violet guide frames those games as Pokémon adventures.
